I've never smoked when I was depressed or suicidal, I'm interested to know if getting high helped anyone take their mind off things?

its personally never helped me. and having an addiction to it and having it do literally nothing (i dont get high anymore, and probably because of my specific set of MH disorders/chemical makeup in my brain, dont think i ever really got high) except keep the withdrawal away, only makes it worse.

for some people, with occasional use. probably? possibly? for others 100% not.
you kind of have to know yourself.
i know i was shocked/confused when i started drinking/smoking up and still kept my mental faculties about me.

For me it does help but the withdrawal is so nasty. I can't understand how so few people are talking about it. I'm in the worst depression rn after smoking for just two days after quitting for about one month. I feel like I'll never overcome this addiction and it's ruining me in so many aspects of my life

Yes... but it's no cure.

I often describe it as a time waster. It does provide me with a much needed break at times, but it doesn't solve anything.
Too much of it, and the time wasting itself can be cause for depression.

It's also not addictive to me. Mixed with tobacco, it have hooked me on nicotine several times, though.

Smoking some weed usually elevates my mood (and creativity)- but I have to take some little breaks from it, so I won't end up becoming too passive or clouded.
Mixed with tobacco, it have hooked me on nicotine several times, though.
There are lots of other options too. I usually smoke it with some chamomile, lavender, and lemon balm.

I microdose THC for stress relief (not depression) and it mostly nullifying. It doesn't fix or make the current emotion disappear, but it's more of an apathetic feeling towards it for a bit of time before it comes back the same.

It also depends on the cause of depression as well, weed in general won't aid in situation based depression.

For me it's a 50/50 shot if it will help. There's times where it has helped me a lot and helped me work out some things in my brain and actually helped me relax for once, be more creative, have fun for once. Or distract me/incapacitated me when feels very suicidal. One time when I was just a second away from attempting my SI kicked in and I ate a bunch of edibles to stop myself, I think if I didn't do that I would have gone through with it. A lot of times I wish I did. But then there's other times where weed made me spiral super hard, and worsen my depression and made things horrible. For me it's definitely a roll of the dice

Not really. If anything it made me more ok with the fact that I was depressed and in a depressing situation but didn't take away the depression itself. 0/10 would not recommend. I feel like it kinda fucked my mind up a bit cause I got pretty addicted to it.

It didn't help me when I was depressed at all. If anything, it worsened my mental state and made me lazier than usual and uninterested in life and also interfered with the psych meds I was taking at the time. Some weird interaction I believe. But weed works differently for everyone and different strains have different effects, so it might be worth a try. Just be careful with substances in general - this is coming from a recovering addict. I hope you can find the relief you're looking for.

For me, it can be a break where my mind goes somewhere else, but the next day it's the same.

Weed can make you feel better, whether it would make me less depressed at this stage I don't know but there was a time in my life where I swore by weed, I definitely think it can cheer you up in ways alcohol can't

It 100% depends on the person.

Weed can cause a lot of people to feel better.

Weed can cause a lot of people to feel worse, induce panic and anxiety

Weed CAN counteract with SOME psych meds and have a negative effects.

I've been smoking every day for ten years tho, it helps me personally a lot.

yes, it is the only thing that takes the edge of my misery. I am a daily user for years. I was in my late twenties when I started using it for relief and I was very depressed before then. I know for me it is not the cause of my depression.

So much tbh. Indica works better for me, and a combo of THC and CBD, but the difference isn't THAT big to me. I rarely have fun, but when I do, it's usually when I'm high. It can calm me from stress and anxiety, and help me enjoy things like food, music, and humor more. I know it doesn't work like that for everyone (which is really a shame) but that's my experience

Drawbacks: Makes it hard to focus, which is annoying (it's easier to focus the lower the ratio of THC to CBD, but it's still always a bit of a problem in my experience) it's expensive, it's stigmatized, it limits what you can do (for example: driving) and it's not appropriate in all situations (which is kinda fair, but still sucks when you really need it to cope)

Don't really touch weed any more but the one time recently that someone guilted me into trying mushrooms it wasn't good for me.

Unfortunately alcohol makes me less depressed temporarily, bad because it's unhealthy, gives me headaches and worst of all is expensive.

Not really. I've only had edibles and while they do make me feel a little good in the moment, it doesn't help me overall.

I don't smoke cannabis because it's illegal in here, but I use OTC and self-imported drugs to cope.
I wish I had weed though, it would be much better "every day" drug.

Smoking weed does make me feel better most of the time, but it's only temporarily and it's more like an illusion I think than something that is legitimately helping me.
