@kitlin I'd argue the question itself doesn't make sense, because the culmination of a persons circumstance in society and life experiences shape both their political perspective and influences how satisfied they are as individual and how they feel about the world they live in all at the same time. it's not that one causes the other, it's that there are a series of common causes and they interplay with each other.
I'm a communist, which means i believe in establishing a foundation of society based fundamentally on human dignity and equality for all without prejudice, instituted through a network of participatory democracy that brings full political and economic power to the people directly. I desire a world where each person has the means and lifelong opportunity to become the best versions of themselves, without restriction. This demands the abolition of all forms of class domination, prejudice, imperialism and oppression.
The notion that it's somehow ethical to accumulate wealth off of other peoples labor should be considered completely unacceptable. Economic activity should be rooted in equal participation, cooperative. If everyone owns the means of production, then there is not a legal power imbalance where one person can exploit everyone elses labor and then proceed to call it "fair" by greatly over exagerrating how much "labor" a managerial role is. The bottom line is that property relations (Who owns the major means of production) exist to exploit the labor of the working class to allow the property owning class to accumulate wealth. If we go by an ethical system where the aim is to reduce harm as much as possible, that enables cooperative and compassionate behavior from people, and to create a quality life that maximizes the general well-being of humanity as well as the potential of individuals, then it is therefore unethical for large scale productive property to be accumulated to single individuals, becase that results in a society built on a foundation that is roughly the direct opposite of that, as much as it may propagandize otherwise.
Already, the mere expression of this goal often times has invoked cynical and anti-intellectual knee-jerk reaction from detractors "you just want utopia!". So striving for something that would be good for the world on the whole and advance the common interest of humanity should not be done, just because it's a far off goal now? Absolutely ridiculous. Being against a goal just because it's difficult to achieve, at the minimum defeatist or even doomerist behavior that thinks change is "too hard" so why even strive for something better? and at worst its from a deeply reactionary perspective where they like systems of oppression as they currently exist and even see themselves advancing in it.
The world is structured damn near the opposite of what i desire, and yet so many people who are not of the ruling class are brainwashed with extensive propaganda to think that the status quo should still continue and they somehow believe "this is the best it gets" as they get pushed to their own demise. It's not even that the information that exposes it all is hidden, the system relies on intellectual complacency of the masses and. This is in spite of the fact that the system depends on the capitalist class controlling the political and economic system and exploiting the working class and the world to serve their own interest, even at the extreme short and long term expense of the world.
So a combination of things really affect me poorly. being the subject of prejudice and dehumanization throughout my life because i'm autistic and we live in a society that thrives on reproducing prejudices against people who don't 'conform' to corporate interest, and not feeling like i have any place in this prejudiced and exploitative order, and caring deeply about achieving fairness and justice for all of humanity without a dominant class system to lead us to our own destruction at every turn, contributes very significantly to being in a chronically depressed mood.
So from this, you can surmise that my political perspective and my depression come from a common set of observations and experiences, rather than one causing the other. Yearning for a world that allows all of humanity to thrive, but being confronted with a world that instead exploits the working class, depends on imperialism, degrades into literal fascist style politics, and treats people who don't fit the corporate mold because they are a little different as 'worthless people'. We need to strive for a society that values everyone's humanity and to provide high quality opportunities to everyone, so that everyone can find their place and feel valued and needed in their own way.
