Hi. I know all the partial hanging basics. I'm using 10mm static rope and a slip knot.

I'm having a really weird issue that I never see anybody else talk about whatsoever.

When I practice partial suspension by leaning into the rope only slightly,or even use my fingers to grab my carotids,I feel that suffocating feeling that I'm not getting enough oxygen. But I'm not putting much pressure on my windpipe at all, especially with my fingers. I know that the brain is being starved of oxygen. But I've never heard of anyone saying that it consciously triggers the suffocation feeling.

Its not a dealbreaker though,I will still use partial anyways. But has anyone else had this happen? I'm just really curious if it's only me or not.

Thanks for any response.

I've created a thread a few months ago and one member replied it was because of not enough pressure on the neck. May be a reason. Also, keeping your head down while compressing the arteries should add more pressure to them.

I still can't pass out and have the same feeling, though it's not as strong when you're actually doing it with the rope. I guess the key here is to instantly pressure the arteries hard.

Thanks for your reply. The thing is I think I will pass out. I almost collapsed when the rope was structured which means I would have most likely died. I definitely believe I can pass out. When I used to practice,I didn't notice any suffocation feeling. But suddenly one night I started to notice it. It literally feels like I'm not getting enough air. But my head doesn't hurt like it would if I only blocked the jugular veins. I'm definitely compressing the carotids as well. My body gets tingly and weak and I feel dizzy.

Thanks for replying!

It depends on the biology of you because for some people carotid arteries are closer, thus less pressure is required. It's hard to tell, some people pass out even if there's a little oxygen deficit, then there are others who need more oxygen deficit to pass out. I, for example, have never passed out, altough there were some people who did and we all were in the same room.

I haven't tried much with rope yet but I will soon. I tried with a scarf before and didn't so much get a suffocation feeling, but my lips felt very tingly and sounds started to drift further away. Like the sound of an air conditioner 5 feet away sounded as if it was 10 feet away. I had put a scarf around a metal bedpost, then put it around my neck and rolled around on the ground until the scarf became very tight around my neck. That was last year, but now I have rope and will do it using a door for height with the rope tied to a heavy wooden table on the other side of the door as a counterweight (don't wanna put all of my trust into the doorknob). I'll see soon whether or not I get that suffocation feeling. I live with family so I have to wait for the right time.

I think it's really hard to do "right". Ideally you shouldn't choke at all. I really wish I was in a position to work on helping find ways to prefect this. I cant leave for a few years :(

I use my hand to compress my carotids. Once I am about to pass out, I have let go because of the convulsions. The feeling is strangely addictive.
