Discussion Do you watch suicidal entertainment?

I can recall that I've watched: Harold and Maude, Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei, Silent Voice, Metalocalypse, and Bojack Horseman. Heaviest to lightest in suicidal elements.

I think I enjoy seeing this in media, cuz it's like representation for me. I think I feel more comfortable in my perspective and existence when seeing others in similar shoes.

yes i adore silent voice smm. i really recommend this one season anime, death parade. the whole basis of it revolves around death and more into suicide during the final episodes but it ends melancholically well and from what you've listed i think you'd really like it.

these pieces of media and entertainment using depictions of suicide however may include them for whatever reason, to come off as more unique/shocking, or to prove a point. i think i more personally connect to media in which the creator's life has centered around suicide or mental illness, or has been cut short by suicide itself. this is especially true with music for example, artists such as elliot smith or daniel johnston. or even video games, my favorite video game, presentable liberty, has the main ending center around the death of a character by suicide, with the creator of the game taking his own life just some years after its creation.

Yes, a lot. Not just shows, but music and video games too. I can't enjoy most non-suicidal/depressing media anymore, it just feels fake to me. But also, despite this stuff comforting me, it's also undeniably fueling my negative mental spiral, so I don't know if it helps or makes it worse. Not that I care anyway.

Yes, I watch a lot of content where there is a depiction of suicide. Though due to schoolwork I didn't have an opportunity to see that much media in general. I did see Bojack Horseman and 13 Reasons Why. The former is a masterpiece while the latter is a cringefest. And my avatar comes from a short animatic on Youtube called "The Rendezvous" and made by Maksn. I think many here would find it relatable.
So yeah, I feel like I definitely gravitate towards that kind of media.
