I suspect you're just opening the first page by clicking the thread title and scrolling to the bottom and maybe missing that there are several more pages in most cases. You only get taken to the newest page/post if you click/tap the time of the most recent reply which is confusing especially on mobile.

I think on mobile you have to look at the bottom of the page for this:

if you see in the middle where it says "1 of 33", you can hit the FF button to jump here.
On desktop it's different and both the bottom and top of a page lets you navigate to other pages

The design isn't ideal and this happens a lot. Even clicking the "latest" post time will sometimes take you just to the latest since you posted, if you have.

Hope that's a somewhat understandable explanation. It's all games in any case; no big deal if someone flubs, it happens regularly :)

That is one of a few things Xenforo/the forum needs to improve on

1) Clicking Posts don't go to latest posts in games (idk if that is a setting tho)
2) Pressing enter when the cursor is mid sentence, while in chat, adds a random newline
3) Opening a notification for chat message, and winding back the ID by 10000 reveals old chat messages (think the limit is 12-15 thousand... it should be less than 5000 imo)
4) The "More posts have been sent" indicator is too delayed, check should trigger when user clicks reply
5) The Ticket section should be invisible if disabled, not show half broken UI

i've long wondered about the "there may be more posts after this" part of a message notification. it seems to randomly show up about half the time when there are in fact not any more posts lol

I think that was a general disclaimer, since notifications only occur for first post... otherwise, someone who "watched" the counting game and left sasu for a month, won't get literal thousands of notifications on their return.

The limit should be 10 vs 1 imo.
