  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Yes, I think being as calm as possible is always a plus.

If you're too stressed and nervious, you might act impulsively and not follow a well-planned method properly.

Yes, but is it possible? It's very important to have a detailed plan, but it's probably impossible to be completely calm...

Yeah, completely calm is impossible, at least for me. However, "as calm as possible" is kinda possible. Last year when I tried to ctb, I was quite calm, nervous and scared at the same time. So weird! I think I was even curious and kinda happy because it would all be over!

I struggle to see why I'm hesitant about ctb when I know how I pleasurable life is?

I think if you're angry stressed/feeling some adrenaline going then that's probably quite useful, esp if you're doing something that's going to be painful. But not so good if you're anxious stressed. In any case yes - preparation and readiness are pretty essential.

I definitely would say being calm is the better choice. Risk is just to big doing something wrong while acting out of impulsiveness.

When I stand on a pretty high bridge near my town & look down at the shallow river beneath it, the frightening thought of falling to my death gives me a huge adrenaline rush, which suppresses the physical pain that usually plagues my body. Paradoxically, those are the only moments when I feel healthy & alive again, so I can't bring myself to jump

do not worry about someone else's opinion, do as you see fit [impulsive/not impulsive, rational/not rational, calm/not calm]

It helps a ton especially if you're using methods that take many minutes to kick in, with a gun on the other hand, your aim may not be precise when you're anxious, but the time window of anxiety and your will to die, shouldn't matter that much. A gun kills quickly if aimed in the right place.

It is definitely recommended, because being in a calm disposition helps to increase the likelihood that whatever choice you make is the one that you genuinely want. Whereas if you make decisions when you are distressed, and your emotions are in a heightened state, then you risk making a decision that you may regret and did not actually want - should you survive. This is not to say that wanting to CTB while in a bad way emotionally is invalid though, because impulsivity is not the same as irrationality; it is possible to make a rash decision that is also understandable - such as jumping out of a window from a burning building. Also it raises the question of how do we even define what is and is not irrational? But that is for another time; I sense that my post reads like a rant at this point so I will stop.

I think it helps to be calm and rational just to make sure, since youre in a situation making the biggest decision of your life. I cant condone the act of ctb but I also can say myself I have expierenced times of understanding that ctb can be made from a rational mindset and sometimes its just the best outcome one can have.

I think it would probably help to have an calm mindset or being devoid of emotion as if you are distressed the SI might kick in and you might not be able to go through with it. It probably is more beneficial to suceeding but I guess attempts could still go wrong even if you are like that. I also think it depends on the method as well, stuff like jumping, where no planning is required it is just on impulse.
