I think there are two types of people: those who listen to music or watch movies that match their mood, and those who try to match their ideal mood by listening to music that is not coherent with their current emotional state. I personally listen to sad music when i'm sad, uplifting music when i'm in a good mood.

Well I must be a third type of person then. I only listen to music I like. Sometimes it can be seen as depressing [Comfortably Numb] but to me, every song is telling a story and that is what I am interested in. The style of music is nothing to do with mood or how I feel/think at the time.

I always listen to dark type of music and prefer horror and dark shows cause thats just how I always feel and they do a good job of explaining how I feel.

I need music and movies that deeply connect with me (otherwise I just lose interest) so they all match how I am or what I want to be.

Sometimes I'll try to force some Bob Marley to lift my mood out of a low slump but it always feels a bit jarring, like looking into sunlight after being in the dark for
several hours. Plus afterwards the remaining feelings just run off like water on a rubber raincoat.

I prefer to drown in my despair :hihi:

We're the same.

When i'm in a bad mood i listen to Slayer for like 30 minutes, and magically my anger and frustration dissipates.

I've got music playing 10 hours a day, basically whenever I'm awake. Only thing keeping me sane.

I usually just keep music in the background, with no lyrics unless I'm happy

When I was depressed about thirty years ago, I had depression mixed tape. I remember a couple of Kate Bush songs on it.

Music is never not playing. It usually matches whatever mood I'm in. I go slightly insane sans music.
