• Hey Guest,

An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.

Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.

I am Hindu and according to it you become ghost
From what I have researched we live as ghost on earth for remaining years of natural life( i.e if we had died natural death) and after we reborn with all the problem we have in this life plus bad karma for suicide.Good thing I have stopped believing in religion now.

No. I'm not a Christian but a loving god would never condemn someone who took their life in despair. I can never believe that.

No, you don't go to hell, hell doesn't exist. But we do have worse here! Fire and brimstone hitting you all at once sounds bad but we can create moments that eclipse that pain here on earth so you are closer to hell than you think!

As someone else stated I have seriously considered that we are in hell now. If you are supposed to be in hell and not know it this reality would suffice. You can experience some joy and achieve success and experience beauty here along with all of the pain and ugliness. My theory is that you can get out early via suicide which would be breaking the rules. Ultimately no one can prove or disprove anything they believe. Knowing the Bible , Koran etc doesn't prove anything either except that this individual believes it. I think many people keep going back to church because they really aren't as sure as they'd like to believe they are. And if we're God's temples then why would he send us to hell himself but we can't?! If he is perfect then I'm confused because this world, the human race and the Bible itself are highly imperfect. I told a Pentecostal guy I know God has a poor track record and he asked what I meant. I said isn't most of humanity going to hell to which he replied " I guess so" and I said there's your answer. I don't accept that any of us were created and most of us are going to hell. I for one didn't request to be created and will request to be uncreated at this judgement crap I keep hearing about. But looking around at most of humanity I can see a need for a hell. Conversely, I believe that actually being sent to hell is God giving you a chance to get your self right with him. If you do go to a hell I do not believe you stay for eternity. This question has been asked several times before on SS by the way. I hope you are having a better day today than you did yesterday and sending positive vibes your way ( what little ones I can muster 😅)

Catholic summary: Not necessarily. Only God knows, and he is merciful. Personally, my private feeling most of the time is: I really don't care if I go to hell, it couldn't be any worse.

Full disclosure, there's an ai tool called magisterium.ai which I use sometimes instead of tediously trying to find and remember things. It summarized it like this: "The Catholic Church teaches that suicide is a grave sin, but it also recognizes the mitigating factors that can affect an individual's culpability. The Church holds out hope for the salvation of those who have taken their own lives, emphasizing God's mercy and the possibility of repentance. The fate of individuals who commit suicide is ultimately known only to God, who judges with perfect justice and mercy."

The Catholic church invented the notion that you go to hell if you commit suicide in the 6th century ad.
There is also no mention whatsoever of a suicide going to hell in the bible.

Extreme Pain is much worse than people know

It's evil to stop somone from wanting to stop their extreme pain.

If i'm in unbearable pain or soon will be why can't i can kill myself to avoid that torture? i won't be affecting anyone else.

there is no hell. but it's not just religious lies that try to prevent you from killing yourself.

This world is evil . and this is only one reason.

if you are in excruciating unbearable constant pain and the only way to get out of it is to kill yourself . who has the right to say that is immoral or wrong or that you go to hell for wanting to end your suffering? no one that's who . its the epitome of evil for humans to create religions , a hell , or a political or cultural ideology that prevents someone trying to escape torture.

It's the ultimate evil to make guaranteed suicide methods into crimes

I agree with your post. Yet they constantly tell us the fleeting crap pleasures like eating a sandwich or watching a youtb video are worth years of that kind of pain

I was raised Christian, and yeah, the general consensus is you do go to hell if you commit suicide.

But let's have a little fun with the idea and explore it a bit.

Suicide might not be a sin. Sure, you could look at the 10 commandments and say it says "Thou shalt not kill," but that might be an inaccurate translation. When you look at the Hebrew and it's translation, it's "לא תרצח" which directly translates to "you shall not murder"

Now you can explore the definition of murder. There is a distinction between murder and killing. All murder is killing, but not all killing is murder. In the Old Testament, God commanded people be stoned to death for crimes, and some were killed for being wicked and it was justified. Murder is unjustified killing. So to prove suicide is a sin, you must prove first that it is an unjustified killing.

Now that is where I'll stop. It's up to individuals to decide whether suicide is unjustified or justified killing, and whether (if you believe in a creator, I personally don't) the creator believes it is or not.

The established Christian position (ie consistent among Catholics, the Orthodox, and mainline Protestants) is that it's an offense against God. "Thou shalt not kill" includes yourself.
This is such a nonsense argument. It is based on what Augustine said, nothing else. Everyone just followed what he said and left it at that. But it's a dumb argument because if "thou shalt not kill" referred also to one self, then "thou shalt not steal" should too. So, according to that logic it's a sin to steal from yourself. Lol. No, "thou shalt not kill" refers to unlawfully taking someone ELSE's life, not your own. The ten commandments are all about how to treat God and your neighbour, not how to treat yourself.

Which religions hell do you fear? Only one religion can be right and in my opinion they're all man made.

The Abrahamic god is a psycho, jealous, ruthless god who gets upset you don't accept him even though he made it very hard and confusing to take what his supposed spokespersons said seriously.

We're doing the best we can with the brain that was given to us.

If god is just it should be enough of an excuse to say i didn't understand your message and so in good faith i couldn't fake the funk and follow you.

Okay so im new to this but i had a question and i can't really ask people i know because i dont want them to suspect that something might be going on. Im a christian and recently i've been really suicidal but the only thing really holding me back is the fear that I'll go to hell. I don't know too much about this and I was wondering what other people think about this. Do you think if you kill your self you automatically go to hell? or is there a chance to still get into heaven?
I am not a Christian, but i believe in Christ like you do. I am a Baha'i, and the writings say we will be given grace. It helps me a lot.
"Thus it is seen that some, under extreme pressure of anguish, have committed suicide. As to him rest assured; he will be immersed in the ocean of pardon and forgiveness and will become the recipient of bounty and favor."

From the perspective of an atheist.

From a Christian theological perspective, Original Sin dictates that all humans are born in a state of sin, which, without redemption, would lead to damnation. However, many Christian denominations believe that infants and innocents who die before reaching an age of moral accountability are granted salvation through God's mercy. This is often seen as a "get out of jail free card" in the sense that they are not held responsible for sin they did not consciously commit.

For those who reach an age of accountability, Christian doctrine typically holds that salvation comes through accepting Jesus Christ as one's personal saviour. This belief is rooted in the idea that Jesus sacrificed himself for the sins of humanity—an act commemorated at Easter. Those who do not accept this salvation are, by many Christian interpretations, condemned to hell.

A key theological issue arises from the Christian understanding of God as omniscient and omnipotent. If God is all-knowing and sees the outcome of every individual's life before it happens, then the concept of free will appears paradoxical. This leads to the idea of predestination: if God already knows who will accept salvation and who will not, then the fate of each person is seemingly predetermined.

An extreme historical example of last-minute salvation is found in the experiences of convicts on Tasmania's west coast. In the brutal penal conditions, some prisoners resorted to murder with the expectation that they would be hanged in Hobart. The rationale was that, before execution, a priest would grant them absolution, ensuring their salvation. This raises questions about the moral and theological consistency of a system where a lifetime of sin can be absolved moments before death.

Christian doctrine varies widely among denominations. Some emphasize grace and mercy, while others stress divine justice and the necessity of faith in Christ. The interpretation of hell also differs: some see it as eternal punishment, others as separation from God, and some even view it metaphorically.

Heaven, traditionally depicted as an eternal existence in God's presence, is sometimes criticized for its portrayal as an eternity spent in worship. This raises existential concerns: would such a state be fulfilling, or could it become monotonous?

Ultimately, belief in sin, salvation, and the afterlife is subjective. If one believes they are destined for hell, that belief shapes their perspective on the afterlife. Christianity offers a framework, but interpretations vary widely, and the logical consistency of its doctrines remains a topic of theological debate.

I hope that helps

What drew you to Baha'i? How did you get involved with it? Just curious, it seems like such a niche religion
