I have the feeling the way the American economy is bulit it is literally a lottery.

There was a thread something like would you give up the option of ctb if you get 500 billion dollars. And I was on the very few voice that agreed on the deal.
The notion of having 500 billion was amazing.

The thing is I worry so much about money and poverty. Never having to worry about this would be so relieving. It is also a part of my suicidal ideation.

I could give some millions to friends and all we could do for the rest of our lives would be playing video games, having fun.

Though, I think I got money it would get meaningless after a few years. And maybe it is a fault already considering to give money to friends. Money can corrupt relationships.
And maybe I had new friends who tried to exploit me.

I looked up how likely it is to hit the jackpot where I live. 1:140.000.000. As likely as if you flip a coin 27 times and it lands on the same side.

I think saving money and then buying a diversified portfolio is way smarter. But sadly for some reasons I don't have that option.

I thought whether I would actually like playing lottery. In the paste I considered it a complete waste of resources. But I thought about this scenarion. I am on the edge of suicide. Only a million could make me stay alive. And why not spending the last 3k on the lottery. I think though it is quite stupid. Then raher hookers and a lot of fun instead. Lol.

My final thought my grandma participates in a lottery. I think her whole life. And that's enough for me. I would get a share. So I don't have to buy me a ticket.
The dumbest way is how my dad participates in the lottery. He always wants to play lottery when I am with him. But he does not regularly check whether he actually won...He is so fucking stupid and that shit makes me mad...

I remember that thread. I can 100% understand why people might want the money rather than to ctb. It can make an enormous difference in your life. And financial issues can absolutely be a leading cause of somebody wanting to ctb.

I had answered no. Yes, I admit I am financially comfortable right now. Hopefully in good position for the future. But when the US had that almost $2 billion jackpot the other day and my father asked me if I want tickets? No, I did not. First time. And even my cheap ass relative bought some!
But right now it would just add to all my problems/conflicts. I would be even more overwhelmed in one second.

I should add that when I was working I always participated in buying tickets when a big group was buying them. Everyone wanted out out of there lol. I did buy some on my own, but kind of like you said, I just hope if anyone close in my family won that they would share it and be generous!

The coin flips are more likely by a wide margin if you think about it. You control the coin toss. It is possible in a controlled environment to consistently flip the coin in the exact same way and always get the desired result. Physics would demand it. But a lottery is a semi-random crapshoot that one drawing has no effect on the other.

I once considered developing a mathematical simulation that would calculate the physical conditions inside those vacuum chambers with the weight of the balls and air flow and how they were dumped into the container, etc... to see how accurately you could predict outcomes. Unfortunately there are too many unknowns and the person running the machine isn't incentivized to do it all the exact same way under the exact same conditions every time... so I bailed on the simulation model figuring it would take more time than just random lottery ticket purchases perhaps.

I don't "enjoy" playing particularly... but I buy tickets sometimes. Though, to be fair, I also consider that winning money just solves the financial part, and I'd be depressed in every other way and still wouldn't want to be here... so not sure if winning the lottery is an outcome worth it even in the short run.

I don't really participate in lotteries unless I really want to try my luck. This month, while coming from work in Germany back to my apartment in Poland, I decided to buy two lottery tickets in a lottery called "Keno". I wasn't hoping to win at all but somehow I ended up winning 437€ on one lottery ticket while not winning anything with the second ticket..
Sure, it wasn't much but I'm currently working on my new car and after exchanging the currency to polish Zlotych, I was able to pay a mechanic for timing belt replacement on it and I bought new headlights because the old ones were broken and the car wouldn't pass the whole "inspection" as they call it in Poland and hopefully sell my old, crappy car very soon because it's too small for me.

However, I was just lucky and this won't be any excuse for me to keep buying "Keno" or "Lotto" tickets because the chances are low and it's a waste of money. I can buy it once or twice every year but that's it.
But the chance of winning millions of Zlotych or Euro for sure sound great and it would help me with starting my new life in Poland and I could also afford some reputable therapist but in the end it's all just a silly dream.
