When you look at a typical DIN 1st stage regulator, there's a margin before the threading threading starts:

I'll need to use an adapter to connect it to a nitrogen tank and I'm not sure if I'll be able to find an adapter with enough depth so do you think I could cut that margin off with a hacksaw? Will be the integrity of the inner mechanism intact, I think so, but I'd rather ask others.

The second thing is I don't know if I'll be able to make a tight seal with the adapter, but it has been done, so I'm hopeful.
