Sorry if this should be in offtopic. I randomly remembered his whack ass and in trying to find it, searching what I thought would dig it up is just showing me a ridiculous number of people who were led here by his video (who maybe don't/didn't know he made himself known here). What an asshat.
I was hoping to review it given I thought the replies were examples of both the absolute best and worst of what this site is.

It's funny to say that I was one of those people. Thanks to that video, I finally found a community that ACTUALLY listens and not just offer empty advices for the sake of stopping me from feeling this way. I realised that not all people in here are manipulating vulnerable people to ctb, but it's a community that supports one another no matter what the circumstances they're faced with. All the prejudice I've had from this forum disappeared after finally interacting with people from here. Of course, there will always be bad people but it honestly goes with any other online sites/social medias.

Curious how despite the marginal amount of admission he made in the thread that not the entire site was an utter shithole, his goddamn video iirc painted it completely as if it had absolutely no redeeming qualities or users.

@katara @hikaru13 I was just trawling the comments and he made money off the video, no less. I had no idea YouTube allowed people to send money via comments, but there it is in bits & bytes.

His folding of the entire userbase into some amorphous guilty agent, yet also somehow distinct from the struggling young kids who realistically probably could've made it through with some real care and support, rubbed me especially the wrong way. He knowingly constructed a boogeyman and fed the paradoxical herd mentality that the whole site is evil but also there are innocent kids who are egged on by some distinct separate evil.

His response to (a fragment of) my comment on the first page shows he knew exactly what the fuck he was doing.

Completely dodging the fucking issue. like yeah sure how convenient to say the systemic causes behind suicide don't actually matter in this pusillanimous, nit-picky takedown of a fringe-ass website that caters to a person in a very specific state.

if you swap the example it becomes even more painfully obvious. it's a bit extreme but the same logic would apply to, say, a website for, i don't know, violent racists or something. for someone to say "WeLl, i CaN't SaY aNyThInG aBoUt ThE rEaSoNs BeHiNd RaCiSm BUT tHiS rAcIsT wEbSiTe Is TeRrIbLe!!"

like dude, you're fighint the hydra in the wrong fucking way and pretending to be hercules. don't cut off the heads that you know will grow back and call yourself a fucking hero. do the real, hard work that needs to be done - attack the heart, make videos or do something more useful about inequity, systemic abuse, corrupt politics, whatever - and don't try to be such a goddamn celebrity about it.

Hah! Not at all; I'd seem you around but never even made the connection. I just changed it at the start of this year, after being sent back here by the bullshit of life...

Yeah, I just came across a more recent thread by Pluto admitting to taking the bastard on way better faith than he deserved. The comments were split and maybe even skewed toward that type; warm measured messages that didn't even catch that this guy did not actually know SpentStardust at all. I think he got a ban that was reversed before Rain chimed in and re-banned him and in that time he got sour about whatever. His only reply after that was to one shitty part of one person's post.

I also saw that yet again, from a subsequent thread from Rain this site had a huge influx of registrants after the fact. Buddy could've promoted "mental health" or whatever his bs agenda was without implicating the site. Like seriously, trashing it to shit doesn't fucking help whatever tiny minority of people here who end up doing the deed but might not have if they didn't find this site.

Maybe this is also a warmed-over point but the idea that a 17 year-old is a "child" is just a part of the societal infantilizing of young people. I have no clue what SpentStardust's situation was and whether or not there was an alternate escape to his suffering, but there are cases in which young people are in fact in completely controlled environments held captive by abusers; living with advanced stages of debilitating disease; any number of things that potentially put them in much better positions of judgment than I or anyone who is not them as to whether their life is livable.

Doesn't mean much , he is the CURRENT head of software from like 2021 or something, the program isn't made by a single person nor do you gain the knowledge on how to use the program because of him. There are many people behind it and many people that give you online tutorials on how to use it.

If he'd been the only one contributing to Audacity, it might have influenced if I would use the program but when he only started work in 2021, who cares.
