Genuine question but I've seen so many people label SS as a cult...Why?

we are classed as a cult because we fixate on suicide as it is popular among our group that's why we are called a death cult but the biggest death cult in the world by far is religion, The biggest event in Christianity is Jesus' DYING on the cross. I mean, the cross is the symbol of Christianity.

Mainly I've seen a few people on reddit or other social media's (TikTok, Twitter) discussing that SS is a cult or "cultish"

It's mostly a smear campaign I think. Pro-lifers don't want people like us to even have the right to talk about this stuff at all, let alone have the right to actually check out if we want. Unfortunately, when some of us have struggled for as long as we have, it's easy to think that everyone would be better off dead, or that the world should be destroyed, so whenever thoughts like that are expressed publicly, pro-lifers probably assume it's what everyone on the forum thinks, and that could help their narrative.

Even though I do think the world would be better off if there was no life on it, that doesn't mean I have the right to take a life that isn't mine. Pro-lifers assume that when we share information here, it means we are taking lives, but that's not what's happening at all. We're simply sharing information with each other that is helpful to ourselves anyway.

It's seen as a cult because acceptance of suicide is highly incongruent with normative societal beliefs and there have been famous bona fide cults whose members have killed themselves. For example, Jonestown and Heaven's Gate (though in the case of the first one it wasn't strictly voluntary across the board).

Personal take: I never untold religion and laughed at cults. Probably the autism and high IQ but there are studies that show that if your brain operates like this, religion is the most non logical thing you can get into. Cult/religion - same thing. Cult is just more aggressive in "recruiting" from what I see to religion.

Just look at covid - people who didn't want it were dehumanised to pieces of shit. No wait, worse than shit. Im fine wit small pox vaccine, measales vaccine, etc and I had them - long testing period and it makes you immune indefinitely. Covid?? Sorry it wasn't for me and it wasn't a "vaccine". Loved how the definition got changed during that time period.
I'm not loud, I stick to myself, I don't want fame or lots of people and I was badgered by everyone so much. Even getting those stupid PCR tests just to escape to another country where the same shit was going on (Spain). If the masses had guns and were allowed to use them they would have shot me already becuase I didn't get the jab and was "killing grandma" apparently. Even my parents wouldn't come near me at times.

I really really despise people. Joining a cult would be nice if you were so ignorant and had such little IQ that it made you completely non self aware. Sounds like fuckign bliss.

Because it is a small corner of the world who all come together based on an unpopular belief. One definition that could potentially apply to this site is "a misplaced or excessive admiration of something", in this case suicide. However I think they are following more along the lines of us being some religious cult who get together in one room and all say some prayer before we drink the koolaid together and no one is left behind. This would be incorrect. We all hold drastically different beliefs on life and suicide, sometimes to a point of contention. No one here would encourage someone to ctb. It is being used mostly as a tactic to get people interested in their story and get them angry. Funnily enough those tactics have lead many desperate people to this site to join as members.

This forum gives people a place to let out their thoughts that would otherwise get backlash or censored/removed. People don't like to talk about suicide until they have been in the situation themselves - they do not know how it feels. I don't blame them, I used to be one of them. But calling this place a cult is just a bad excuse for an uneducated insult.

Let's look at the dictionary definition. The members of this forum do not have an exclusive system of beliefs. Beliefs vary widely, we often see funeralcry with her nihilistic beliefs that all life is meaningless through to members like me who believe life is wonderful, but only if you're fit and healthy; I'm not. The diversity of opinion indicates it's not a cult.

As someone who was in a religious cult in my youth, this is an interesting thread. The way that people use the word varies greatly - from a weird group you don't understand to a harmful and coercive organization.

I my opinion this site is nothing close to a cult in any meaningful sense. I feel the term is used against the site in an effort to smear us.

A very useful tool to analyze systems of coercive control in cults is the BITE model, which examines how a group controls members through behavior, information, thought, and emotions. I don't see any of these elements of coercive control happening here. I encourage looking into the model if anyone is concerned about being subject to coercive control.
