Could my dad be trying to break a cycle?

I'm probably way in over my head with this making an assumption but, I dunno, it came to mind?

Earlier I was talking to my dad after work and he said he was staying by a friends place tonihjt. I tend to worry about his comfort and he said "don't worry about me. I'll be happy. Just focus on your day"

I've dealt with parentification all my life so hearing him say that was, interesting

That's fair and probably for the best. Better to be pleasantly surprised than make yourself unsafe and be wrong.
