There are a few considerations. The death rate is going to be far lower if everyone in critical condition has access to medical care. So they need to slow down the rate of infection, even if the same number end up getting affected, because it will reduce deaths. That's the whole "flatten the curve" thing they babble on about.

But the severe shutdown methods to slow that infection rate have untold consequences in other areas, some of which have been alluded to here, so there's nothing black and white about this. One random thought that occurred to me recently is if everyone shuts their borders for a year, what happens to the 70M refugees in limbo? If people thought there was a refugee crisis last year, it just got at least 100x worse. And frankly that's just one of seemingly endless considerations our leaders are grappling with right now. I'd hate to be in their shoes.

I'm certainly not informed enough to have a valid opinion on this. I have opinions on the broader issues but it won't benefit anyone else for me to share, so for once I'll stay quiet on all of this and wait and see. Hahaha that was the definition of a pointless post.

China has basically controlled this virus at the moment. It has killed 3255 out of of 1+ billion which is 56 per 1,000,000.

Their new daily cases of infections is 0 apart from chinese returning home from abroad. They are weeks ahead in their corona story. Weeks ago they had a daily new infection rate in the 1000's (like Italy etc currently has) but it has now dropped off to 0 (apart from natives returning home).

If other countries do a China, which most are appearing to do so ie social isolation etc, then why can't they can't control it too and also have a really low death rate?

Btw I'm not trying to minimize the threat of this virus, China has only controlled it with strict measures, we all need to heed the advice given and do our bit.

Why can't I directly embed images has something changed on here?

Please read the material and watch the video! My reply is so angry, because the ignorance of people has the potential to make this situation so much worse within the next months while at the same time they feel so smart and superior, because they think they found yet another conspiracy. We are organisms that think in a linear matter. That is why these kind of growths are not so familiart to us. But instead of researching and read articles of experts and listen to them, people open their mouths about things they dont have the slightest knowledge about. That is why I am angry. Because as long as you are not within the risk group, you wont get punished for your irresponsible behaviour, but others will.
Well, the anger aspect of your reply doesn't achieve anything, and is misplaced.
People are not willfully ignorant, they just haven't been provided with the required information in a way that makes it accessible and understandable without having to invest several hours of research, which most people don't have the time or energy for. Instead people have just been information-overloaded, but without the *quality*. And it is the quality and conciseness that makes the difference.....
As stated, the world health organisation and/or google could have done a better job at making that information available in a quick to read and digest way.
Anyhow, you have provided some good quality information, so thank you for that aspect....

I dont agree with you at all and could explain it but that, instead of my angry undertone, would be truly misplaced here. It wont help anyone so I just leave it. One thing I have to say though. "Could have" and "should have" are empty phrases because all these scenarios lie in the past. Quite ridiculous you blame WHO and or Google for this. Additionally some things cannot be dumbed down and not everything can be available in a "quick to read and digest way". Things in life are not always the way you want them. I am sure I do not need to stress that in such a forum. Please try to spread the information I posted, it can make a difference!

For people that missed it:

Maybe they are not telling us something ?
By tomorrow this will have surpassed the 12,000 swine flu ended at and with all the "precautions" it hasn't finished yet not by a long chalk ,
So i would hardly say it's not a big deal , especialy to the families of the 4.032 italians .
it's just the general public who are acting like fooking morons .
yorkshire too mate

Technically I dont live in Yorkshire anymore , as with boundary changes over the years it changed from East Yorkshire to North Humberside and now we are a City and Borough on our own surrounded by East Riding of Yorkshire and the River Humber ,
We do have regular ferries from Rotterdam & Zeebrugge but they usually get off and go elsewhere .
we are a dead end and have been ridiculed for decades , saying no one comes to my city as no one has to pass through it to get to anywhere else .
The population has kept around 260k for over 100 years .
It is certainly working to out advantage now though as we only have one confirmed case (so far)

When the RMS Titanic sank around 1,500 people died. When the MV Wilhelm Gustloff sank an estimated 9,400 people died. When the World Trade Center was attacked 2,977 people died. When the US Air Force terror bombed Tokyo on the night of 9–10 March 1945 an estimated 100,000 people died. This doesn't change the fact that Titanic and 9/11 were tragedies. People still died and suffered even though more people died and suffered in other tragedies.

If you don't think this is such a big deal, why don't you pick a suicide method which will make you suffocate to death slowly? If you think other people can and should endure that, surely you can do that too.
