Carbon monoxide through gas mask?

In Ukraine, apparently people were horrifically murdered by being forced to inhale burning coal through a gas mask. Would this be a neat and simple method?

Never thought of this before. Would have tried it if I still was settled on the CO method, but it is my third choice as of now instead of first. Sounds interesting. I'll pass on being buried alive though, can't imagine how terrible that must have been for the victims.

I think it would burn your lungs and it would be an extremely painful method. The standard charcoal method can actually be peaceful if done correctly, but this method was seemingly designed to inflict the most possible pain.

You can generate the CO is a different manner (chemicals) and use a mask. Maybe buy a tank of CO and use it with a mask. Would have to be more comfortable than breathing in hot gas I would think.
