Canada's euthanasia expanding?

The use of the word regime feels like a dog whistle insult.

After reading, I can usually deduce a person's angle. The wording and verbiage leaves me with more questions than answers. I haven't done research into the article's author but it appears they have written on the right to die movement but with an article worded like that, I can't imagine it's anything I'd want to read, but I'm open to being corrected. Thank you for posting this!

If people want to read about this from a more objective source, here is the Associated Press on the matter (Oct. 16th): Private forums show Canadian doctors struggle with euthanizing vulnerable patients.

And here is the Associated Press's follow-up on the matter (Oct. 18th): Committee reviewing euthanasia in Canada finds some deaths driven by homelessness fears, isolation.

This information looks to have originated out of a tabloid, which triggered the AP's own investigation leading to the two above-mentioned reports which appear to have more credibility than the tabloids.

While I think the AP's reports can be taken seriously, I'd feel more confident about the stories if a Canadian media outlet would pick up the story. So far, I'm not seeing any of this in mainstream Canadian news media.

Personally, it wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that a lot of people are being granted assisted dying for the lack of access to proper disability supports and social services and maybe inadequate or untimely care from our healthcare system -- people who wouldn't be seeking assisted dying if these basic services were more accessible and more efficient. To be clear, I only say this as my own personal speculation based on what I know of the Canadian system, and I'd like to see what Canadian news media has to say about all this before passing actual judgement.

Honestly, it is probably better to just read the committee reports instead of relying on the media. They mainly focus on certain facts that fit their agenda while failing to mention any other factors or limitations that are clearly stated within the actual reports themselves.

Meanwhile, they forgo to mention the limitations in that analyses

Figure 14 demonstrates the levels of marginalization described for the residential community of MAiD recipients who have experienced disability by the length of time with a disability. Figure 15 shows a similar relationship for MAiD recipients experiencing a serious illness for ten or more years. Given that the Material Resources dimension is representative of community aggregates, the level of deprivation for each individual MAiD recipient cannot be directly determined. Material deprivation is likely multi- factorial, potentially including direct impacts of the illness or disability, such as employment opportunities. Overall, these comparisons are predicated on generalized measures for vulnerability and not direct individual level reporting (Figure 14, 15). Therefore, the reader should recognize limitations to the analyses. Individuals seeking MAiD under Track 2 have features which often include a significantly longer disease and disability burden to those seeking MAiD under Track 1.

I'm not going to act as though MAID is perfect, but a lot of the "journalism" on it is bullshit. Maybe it's my own biases coming through, but I can't find it in me to trust anything the media says on it. I understand the potential risks and downsides of MAID, but it's hard to find anything on it that doesn't end up just being something written by someone who either has clear biases against MAID or who is just wanting to try and get as many people to click on their article as possible.

Edit: Also, @art355 maybe let's not use that site when trying to find information on anything in general. The site has a very clear right-winged and after looking it up on Media Bias Fact Check, it seems as though it also ranks low in factual credibility.

I'd become a citizen just for MAID

Being a Canadian citizen myself, I have thought about applying for MAID. I'm not young and have a lifetime history of incurable depression and OCD and another disorder.
If it's true they are allowing MAID for some of these cases, I may be approved. It might be worth a try.
