I don't want peace of mind, I'm beyond that. I want absolute peace aka nothingness and it's only possible once you're dead. So for me death = peace.

I did try to communicate and compromise with the pillow! It was not receptive. I need to be rehabilitated, not punished. :(
So you are talking to a pillow? NURSE!!

You say "for all we know" followed by a presumption/belief that death is non-existence. Maybe it isn't. And one can equate non-existence with peace, anyway... peace by definition is the absence of disturbance.

"I don't want someone expecting..."

With all due respect who cares what you want? Who cares what I want? You dont determine one's expectations. This society is becoming to pedantic. What happened to looking for good intentions??? It's a board full of people at their wits end. FFS we have enough to be worried about...

Hopefully we can all spend the next decade in our heads looking for the perfect words and actions to perform...ooops isn't that why most of us are here??

Seeking perfection is a useless endeavor. Move on...

I know it's a nice saying, but for all we know, death isn't peace, death isn't anything. You don't achieve peace of mind by destroying it, just like you don't fix a computer by throwing it in the trash. It creates an unhealthy discourse about suicide. Thank you.
You know, some of the members here grow close to each other and care for each other. A peace wish is the last good bye and certainly does not create a disclosure about suicide. This is how you feel about somebody and care, not just type a few characters on a keyboard. I think we are here together, not against each other. If you don't want to do it, don't do it. But please don't judge or dictate those who want to. After all, we are a community here.

I'd much rather see an end to the desperate info grilling in goodbye threads than worry about what figures of speech people use.

I do understand where you're coming from, but I disagree that it promotes unhealthy discourse. It's something people have always said when discussing anyone who has passed away, not just suicides. "At peace" really just means not suffering anymore, and there's nothing offensive about the sentiment behind those words.

To me peace after death means not suffering, not the alive emotional/mental state of peace. So oblivion is peace in the sense of not suffering. It is the freedom from misery vs the feeling/emotional state of tranquility. I personally do not find issue in saying at peace.

Completely agree. I dumbfounded at times with the selfishness I see in goodbye posts.

It's horrible. Like... seriously people? It's possibly the last minutes of a person's life and they're maybe feeling scared and lonely, and you want them to waste time doing a Q&A session for your curiosity?

First of all, a human being is not a computer. Second of all no body is talking about healing the brain by killing it, that saying is mostly used by people who believe that the human being is more than just a bag of bones and meat, by people who believe in the soul and the self as an entity that exists beyond the body. That's literally what pretty much every single religion says is true.
And second of all, it is just a BELIEF, and hope, it's well wishing where we simply don't have any way of knowing the truth and what's really happening to people who pass. Yes we can't be 100% sure they are at peace and their soul is living beyond but you can't be 100% that there is nothing and after death it's just like nothing.None us know what's actually REALLY gonna happen, all we can do is believe in what makes the most sense and/or brings us the most comfort. So maybe don't try to dissuade people from their beliefs because if people believe in something it's because they have a reason for believing in it. Just like I won't try to dissuade you from your belief.
It's all good.

What would you like everyone to say? I'm just saying what I feel. If people find it annoying they don't have to read it. My intentions are always good. Many of us have no peace in our lives so that is why we say it.
very well said.

Your anology is flawed. We aren't trying to fix our lives by killing ourselves. We are trying to escape our problems , or no longer to deal with them by kling ourselves

I don't mean to discredit anyones sympathy and everyone is allowed to day what they want, but if you go killing yourself expecting peace, you're going to be disappointed, at least for all we know. Maybe we could say 'sorry it has come to this' or something.
Let's just write whatever we want to write. I'm not changing for anyone.

Since none of us really know what comes after this, I don't think it hurts to hope that someone finds peace.
Some believe in a higher power … some do not. I hope I find peace when I leave but if there isn't anything and I end up in the void, I'm ok with that also.
I just don't want to be recycled and have to do this shit all over again.
