I would say yes, because you are losing someone else a appointment they may desperately want and need. To keep cancelling is just time wasting
regardless of mental illness, I don't believe that should be a excuse after a set amount of time, one or two cancellations yes but any more , no

Yes.
A good therapist will be in demand and you are denying, not only yourself, but a potential other client an opportunity for assistance.

A good therapist (not osychiatrist) would also attempt to personally contact you to ascertain why you are not able to engage and offer options to assist in making that initial step easier for you ... information about the therapeutic process/modality etc. But they wont chase you as if the reality is you are not ready or simply dont want therapy then there is little point.
If this has happened or tour worried about it happening I suggest you could consider emailing the therapist the concerns and worries youre experiencing that are hindering your ability to engage AND ask for some strategies or alternatives to.prepare you for the experience.

Not everyone who needs therapy is ready for therapy or has the ability to engage. This is not a fault in you just a fact of circumstances. It doesnt mean you wont be ready at some point or with some assistance.

I am speaking re therapists here not psychiatrists as demands on their time are huge.

All the best and I hope you find a solution that works for you.

Yes, they can drop you for any reason. Mine dropped md for being too suicidal / "a liability".

Yes and also don't forget no show fees. If I were a therapist I would set the no show fee higher than the appointment charge If it's even legal. But on the upside I would give one or two missed appointments as a grace after so many sessions. To deter long time flakes this seems a good policy to me

To what degree are they responsible for patients who do ctb? I thought they weren't at all.

I think as long as they don't do a completely shitty job there's no legal liability (don't quote me on that though), but grieving families are often looking for someone to blame and the easiest person to point the finger at is the therapist. Probably especially in the US since everyone loves a good lawsuit. It's bad enough losing a client that you were trying to help, but being publicly blamed for the client's death on top of it would be emotionally and financially devastating. It's not right, but I can understand why a therapist would be afraid to put themselves at risk like that.

Yes. You have to put effort into your healing. If you can't meet them some of the way then they have a right to stop seeing you and work with someone else who is willing to put the effort in.

I'm in the UK and private therapists will charge you full fee if you cancel on the day. Some require 48-72hr notice. It's very easy to cancel if you aren't taking the financial hit every time. Sometimes this is why paying for therapy works better. It's another motivating factor to get your ass there.

Surely your therapy is all remote at the moment anyway? If you can't bring yourself to get on a zoom call you aren't ready to work on yourself in that way. It requires minimal effort. You either want to do it or you don't.

I have MDD, BPD, BDD have attempted suicide several times last year and been in inpatient... if you want to do therapy, you will push yourself to. Mental illness isn't the reason you aren't attending. It's either motivation, laziness, unwillingness to change or no belief that it will help. Don't blame not attending on your mental illness. It's more than that.

You don't know me to judge me. First of all doctors here don't do zoom calls, they require to go to their office + I'm agoraphobic so it's hard for me to leave the house. Yet I forced myself to shower and even though I'm very anxious, tomorrow I'm going to my appointment.

So you're going to a doctors office for therapy when Covid is happening?
There are plenty of therapists all over the world offering therapy online. I'm simply pointing out that you would find a solution that works for you if you were ready and wanted the help.
No ones going to do the work for you.
Good luck tomorrow. If it's at too much and you can't do it but want therapy, look inline for a therapist who offers this service. Pretty much every therapist offers this device in the UK.

sad answer is yes. possibly. even with telemedicine it's like that. at least from my experience. subs program kicked me out. well, that's a huge service for me lol.

but you should explain this to any new psychologist/psychiatrist you see, I think. that you have had times where you appear to have dropped out from therapy but it's becuz you been doing really bad MH-wise.

and sometimes the doctors themselves can be the reason. I'm just saying this so you can see if your situation is somewhat similar. I've had times where shrink was too triggering and I stopped seeing him for weeks. if that's case you might consider changing one. think about the *specific* reasons why you can't visit *your* doc these days. yeah, hope this helps.

The medical group I use will drop you on 3 cancelled appointments. They didn't have any qualifiers on that.
