The important difference between the three different standards are the connectors and their threading. A regulator for EU standard will not fit a UK cylinder and so on. The EU standard and the british imperial standard both use a bottle pressure of 200 bar. You need a UK standard regulator for use with cylinders sold in the UK.

A regulator reduces the bottle pressure to a fixed pressure adjustable by the user. For examble you have welding equipment that needs 2 bar of argon. You set the regulator attached to the bottle to 2 bar. It than reduces the bottle pressure that starts out at 200 bar and delivers 2 bar to the welder until the bottle is empty.

For our purpose we dont want a fixed pressure, we want a fixed flow rate. That is accomplished by a special regulator with flow meter, or a flow regulator.

The Maxx Dog regulator does this, you set it to 15 lpm and it delivers 15 liters per minute until the tank is empty.
Yes, you also can buy other, cheaper regulators with flow meter.

You can download the "Peaceful Pill Handbook" here:

Thank you. Yes I had read that in the peaceful pill handbook and I see then that it is definitely the U.K. regulator. Thank you for your extra info. Now....I have tried to find other flow regulators in the U.K. (which you can set to 15lpm) with no joy. It seems a US thing. I think I might just have to order from Max Dog. If I'd actually ordered it 3 weeks ago instead of fannying around, it might have been here by now! thank you

hey
Did you order the max dog regulator?
Or did you find any other flow regulators that would work ?

Hi, yes I did get the Max dog. That was the one that I was initially having problems with but it's absolutely fine now. It only took about two weeks to arrive to the UK (although the website says leave up to 6 weeks). What I needed to do was just tighten it more. Hand tight just simply wasn't sufficient. I used a wrench and gave it another quarter turn and it was very tight. Basically I couldn't tighten it anymore. When I did the detergent test (it was suggested to me-I just sprayed it where it connected to the cylinder) there was still a bit of leakage. When I turned the click flow meter up higher it bubbled more. This was only at about 5 or 6 on the flow meter. I knew that if I kept turning it up to 15 l/m (which is what is recommended) it would bubble even more. I took it off again (it was really hard to get it off as I had had to tighten it really tight) and wrapped Teflon tape around the thread as per the recommendation by a you tube video I was sent (on my 'no o ring on regulator' thread! ). Then it worked fine with no leaks at all. The max dog product is really good quality solid brass. Yes it's expensive but I wouldn't have a clue how to set up my own so it didn't really matter to me, I just wanted to get the right thing and know that it was going to be okay. I just wish everything else in life was going to be okay!

Do you know any other regulators instead of the max dog that can be used?

No. I couldn't see anything in U.K. but I'm not technical at all. I know people have rigged up their own as I've seen it on others posts but that wasn't for me. I didn't care about the cost, I just wanted the right thing with minimum stress - life is stressful enough.

That's exactly what I arrived at. Nothing with a click flow meter on that was easily accessible. If I'd been able to buy something easily, even if it needed a bit of assembly, I would have but in the end I'm glad I got Max dog one (well I'd rather not be buying anything like this at all) as it was just so much easier.

Nitrogen reg

I was just talking to my local gas cylinder provider and he said something like this should work. Im not sure if you can control the flow rate with this device. Does anyone know here if you can control the flow rate with this?

(Sorry - actually hate that term but not sure how else to express it)

I got an engineering degree, im still mechanically retarded and couldnt figure out what to do lol. give me a video instructions and ill happily do the hand calcs.

Hi, I can't remember now what other thread I saw something about this on.....this just tells you what rate it is flowing at, you can't actually control the flow with it. Though I don't know what the point of it would be if you can't control it. Maybe you need something else to go with it. Honestly, I went through a lot of this and then thought I just had to buy the max dog thing as it does control it at 15lpm and that is really necessary. At least this Max dog product is correct for U.K. even though many say it is way overpriced. Well, for U.K. I couldn't see anything that did the job. max dog is actually an oxygen regulator, medical grade. If you are serious about it then it needs to be right.

I think I was wrong - I didn't see that the black bit it actually a knob that you can turn presumable to control the flow. See post on Friday by fightingsioux - sorry, don't know how to link it. Just search for 'regulator' in search and it will come up.
