Has anyone ever said this to you? Dumbest thing I've ever heard. I hear people say all the time, "Kids are too soft these days" which I agree with to a certain extent (Areas I would rather not get into), but to say bullying is good for you is really an unintelligent statement. Adversity, disagreements are good for you. Not bullying.

Just another way of saying that suffering is good. It's not. It never will be. People being "soft" because they don't have to suffer? Isn't that what we want? Where does this fetishisation of suffering come from? Yeah, people had to brutes to survive through horrible struggles, but we should be thankful that we don't have to do that and can focus on other pursuits rather than just basic survival.

Saying something like that is really so ignorant and ridiculous. The truth is that bullying only serves as a way in which to create unnecessary suffering, I'm pretty sure that everyone who has ever been bullied would have been better off without it. The cruelty of humans shouldn't be glorified in anyway, to me nothing could justify bullying.

its pretty funny, because a lot of the people saying that come from older generations
and without healing from it, those generations only passed the abuse down to us
a lot of them are actually extremely fragile, just putting up a front
and in a way i guess thats a coping mechanism... but its one that actively harms the younger generation
it definitely doesnt make you stronger in any case
i see people compare it to fire hardening, but its more like snapping the stick in two and covering it in duct tape
like sure, technically it is stronger, but pull on the tape and the whole thing falls apart
i cant stand that concept
justifying- or romanticizing -abuse of any kind is disgusting

People who say that are probably bullies themselves. I was bullied in school, and I witnessed some kids get bullied even more severely than I did. In fact, as a grown up, I can now recognize that some of these forms of "bullying" bordered on torture. I fail to see what "lessons" or benefits we gained from those experiences, apart from showing us how awful people can be.

yes, something something "you need thick skin anyway." all bullying did to me was make me more and more sensitive and care more and more what others thought of me. I would have more "thick skin" if people didn't treat me like shit and treated me like an actual valuable human. instead all i learned is that i'm worthless. even today i cry so easy and people act like I've never had a hard life or have never been bullied because of my sensitivity, and so they decide to treat me badly to "show me the real world" as if I haven't been treated to it since the age of 3. ugh. i just feel more broke by peoples harsh treatment.
And all these people who say "bullying is good for you" always have shit to say when the person getting bullied stands up for themselves. I think they are just bullies trying to victime blame.
People who say, "bulling is good for you" are part of the problem.
Bullying is never helpful.
There are a myriad of difficult obstacles to overcome in life for a child to grow into a capable adult. Being bullied doesn't enhance the growth, it causes trauma and all the terrible ramifications that arise from it.
I went to a weirdly pro-bullying elementary school. Apparently the theory was that we needed to learn to "take it" so we could "compete." Compete for what? Gold in the 400-meter crawl? A world record for most wedgies received before fourth hour?
I was bullied quite mercilessly for years as a pre-adolescent, and the psychiatrist on the ward I'm always locked up on says I turned out FINE.

I grew up completely surrounded by bullies in the family and at school. Started my adult life having dropped out of school, not bathing or talking and brainwashed into thinking I was unable to work or leave the house.
The only good thing is that it spares me the bother of living to old age, as there was never going to be a recovery from a childhood like that!
Wow! I'm shocked. Though I guess I shouldn't be. People are so stupid - they often don't question the dysfunctions passed down to them and they just keep passing it along.
Sorry that people in your life think that way! that can only bode hardship.
I want to murder and I am violent, I am barely rational most of the time.
The culture nowadays doesn't help, it favors complacency and victimization, so you're stuck in the violent cycle forever.
