Is your point that you feel that if she was truly depressed she wouldn't have taken selfies and posted on instagram especially right before jumping? Or that she was an attention seeker? Now that I think about it, I wonder where she jumped. Was it in a city?

Well, I hope she found what she was looking for in the end.

The pic was the story. That was her Memorial photo to herself.
Here is the photo with her own caption.

Apparently that's all the woman thought was necessary to memorialize herself.

Beautiful Selfie = Strength ..supposedly.

At least her memorial post lets her close out her own story. I like what she wrote.

It wasn't just a selfie. She literally offered herself RIP.

She also wrote "May this day bring you rest and peace" to maybe say to others that's what her decision brought her, and to offer well wishes in her goodbye.

Certainly YES to the second question, I don't care what anyone else says, yea I've got sympathy if she was suffering, but it doesn't mean I have to appreciate the way she went about it.
I really don't get what's so special about memorializing yourself with a selfie on social media.
It wasn't for or to herself, she wanted everyone else to see it and probably say what a shame it was for such a pretty face to jump like that.
(People get all bent out of shape when the "beautiful ones" kill themselves, the media uses this to their advantage by pushing crime stories -not just suicide- where the victim is especially aesthetically pleasing, these are the people who get the most attention and sympathy unfortunately, for very superficial reasons. It even happens with victims who are CHILDREN.)

So I'm sorry but that is more than a bit ridiculous to me.
I'm having trouble even believing it actually went down as outlined (so apologies to the woman if the story is a farce).

I could care less if she has the title of "BeautyQueen"…is this supposed to make me feel especially empathetic or in awe?
I'd rather just hear about the parts of her story that had nothing to do with her appearance or what tiaras gave her the moniker of 'Beauty Queen'.
Specifications like that are a disservice to the conversation as much as they are a disservice to the victim/deceased themselves.
To me it's the same as saying "BLONDE WOMAN jumps to her death" or "BEST HAIR WINNER takes his own life"
Who gives a flying fuck if she's blonde or if he has amazing hair?
Christ…

Like a boss.
A person can be pretty, successful, but still unhappy. Wish there was something that could have been done to make her want to live, but if that's what she wanted, I'm glad she's not suffering anymore. Hope her loved ones find strength to move on.

it is true that we live in a lookist and ageist and ableist society that mourns for people who die when young, who are seen as conventionally attractive, as well as people who 'have it all' by capitalist standards. And that society cares less for the traumatized, the disabled, the poor. And you can add race and colorism to that.

Always interesting to see the ones who seemed to have it all go.

But then again to "have it all" is something that has been conjured up by about 70 years of western television MSM.

I don't want to speculate but it's possible she was getting to the age where the beauty starts to tank. Approaching her age now and this topic comes up more and more. Men are all ugly anyway for the most part so I don't think that impacts us as much when it happens

Well it seems another black beauty queen has plunged to her death. Zoe Bethel died after falling from a third story window. They're saying it was an accident. Incredibly sad for her loved ones.

The things they liked?
That wasn't a personality trait or an interest.
I completely disagree that someone should be "proud" that they're physically beautiful, they should be "relieved", yes.

It's an unearned trait and privilege, I don't celebrate people's unearned financial or racial privileges either, or anything else along that vein.
I've made plenty of arguments as to why that is, and the harm that results from doing so.
People don't often hear those stories, as they're not visually appealing fodder for the news circuits.
It's exhausting to explain the obvious over and over again.

This is why I don't often revisit my own comments or quotes, because the lookist sympathies only ever veer in one direction, without critical thinking, it's always just a surface level interpretation of my criticism.

I think it would have been far more meaningful and in the woman's favor to avoid focusing on her looks and title, but unfortunately her physical attributes are highlighted and the ultimate reason why most have been drawn in and pour condolences into this story more than others.
It's certainly far from the only example.

(Only responding to this for the sake of anyone else viewing in the future, showed up again when I was searching for something tangentially related.)

Agreed. If she was posting selfies like that, she very well was aware of her lucky genes and biology. Otherwise, that wouldnt be the theme of her pictures. Unfortunate that depression caused her to ctb.

At the end of the day beauty wasn't enough. I think you should reconsider just how 'lucky' she was to be born attractive and intelligent. She's dead all the same now. That kind of pressure could easily push someone over the edge, especially a young woman trust into the spotlight like that. Good looks are of no use when you've reached the end.
