  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

i find it interesting. why and what about autism makes it much more likely for individuals with it to experience suicidality? i am autistic myself, and i find that the sensory issues and social issues play a big part. being a social outcast makes it harder to reach out, to get any help, so it just bottles up. even me being me, a very outgoing and social person, who never bottles things up, feels suicidal. what is everyones thoughts?

some would say i'm kinda on the spectrum, even tho when i research it; so many of the "symptoms" or personality traits don't match me.
but i do have some quirks with that...
it's not really a big mystery, the more problems you have, the bigger a chance there will be of suicide, because you want to stop the problems.
and maybe suicide is the only way out, in certain cases.

everyday when i come home from having been around people, i always close my front door and either roll my eyes heavily,
or do a big sigh or some other thing to "take the steam off" so to speak, because my social battery runs out so quick.

i think human civilization was designed a certain way, for a certain kind of person. some people are compatible with this life, some are not. i think i'm just incompatible with living.

I've read a few studies that note a pretty strong correlation between autism and suicidality, particularly in "gifted" individuals. It's usually onset much earlier than neurotypical peers (like under 10 iirc), which closely matches my experiences.

The studies didn't have any definitive answer for why, and I don't think I can give an answer that will apply to the entire autistic population. I think in general though, the world isn't made for us. It's really hard to try and fit in with others and function in society when it expects certain things and refuses to accommodate our differences.

autism was never ment to exist in most eyes. its getting even worse with the onset of people who fake these debilitating mental issues, people who use autism, tourette's, DID, ADHD, OCD, and so much more to seem cute and quirky. and with the onset of devices being put in the hands of growing children, scrolling tiktok, youtube shorts, instagram reels, etc. autism, and mental/physical disorders and general, were never considered in the world we live today.

I have been thinking about this for some time, in part due to suspecting I may be on the spectrum so I truly can't speak for everyone but I think that if not outright nightmarish, it's exhausting to no end to exist in a world that asks for too much and offers so little in return.

There are many things, conventions, and ways in which society functions that were designed by someone else, for someone else and not people who function in a different way.

Being a "functional member of society" is probably difficult for everyone but a lot more for people on the spectrum, and it's hard to remain living with dignity, if at all, it's extremely isolating and things are not likely to change for the better, ever.

I have read some studies in which people on the spectrum with higher IQ were more likely to be suicidal. Being able to see what goes on does not help because you only see how much things suck and what is the most likely outcome.
