At what point can one be involuntarily hospitalized?

Let's say my parents were to go in my room and find my exit bag and piece together what I plan to use it for. Is them just finding my stuff enough evidence to warrant involuntary hospitalization, or would I only be sent if I actually admitted to my suicidal thoughts?

And, is it worth denying any plans to CTB if they're already pretty certain I want to (in a legal sense)?

I dontr think so. It needs to be shown that you are at *imminent* risk of completing suicide. Just having the equipment doesn't show that. But I know in practice people have been admitted without meeting that standard. You're better secure the suicide materials in a safe place.

Yes, It's always worth denying. Admitting exposes you to greater risk. What you say is important as far as beng hospitalized goes and oftentimes if you deny, that's good enough for them as they go by what you say and they can feel comfortable want that.

I got hospitalized my one and only time because I dumbly admitted to learning to tie a noose to hang myself. I didn't even have a rope or any concrete plan.

If you say/do/have something that indicates intent to kill yourself (rather than just passive thoughts), I think you can be hospitalized for it. If you do get caught with it, I would just lie and say it was from before and you feel better but forgot to toss it or something. It may not work, but it's worth a shot.

If you're a minor it's a lot easier for your parents to get you committed. After all, they're the ones who are responsible for you until you reach the age of majority.

Probably not, assuming that you are an adult (which you have to be to use this forum). Once you get to the hospital you can just deny deny deny. Say you had it aroud from months ago when you weren't fine and haven't gotten rid of it yet or that it's just a niceity to have. People are typically only admitted when they are only an active threat to themselves, if you don't have a plan they probably won't do anything. But of course this varies hospital to hospital. Even though I had ordered SN and the hospital knew I was able to get out of it by saying it wasn't for anything imminent but for something far into the future, my episode I was having when I ordered it had passed, and I was going to cancel my order. Although, I only really got out of it because my therapist who didn't know the full extent of my condition was able to convince the psychiatrist on-call that I was not a threat to myself.

Where I'm at in the US, it doesn't even matter if you try to deny it. If your parents say they think you want to harm yourself because of what they've found, the cops can just haul you away. Someone can straight up call the cops and lie just to get you removed (happened to me) and they will involuntarily commit you based on someone else's word. Please be careful... the hospital is not a fun place, nor is it cheap. The first time I was committed I wasn't suicidal at all, and there was no evidence of me being so. When the cops found me I was sitting by a pond on the property, consequently barefoot because I had to flee my living space (roommate's boyfriend was trying to fight me). I had a tiny scratch on my arm, and stupidly admitted that I used to self harm as a young teen (13ish). I was naive at the time and was just trying to be truthful in answering the cop's questioning. They literally handcuffed me and threw me in the back of a van all because some asshole was pissed that I told his girlfriend he was a worthless cheater who assaulted me. Luckily the hospital staff was understanding and believed my story and did not admit me for an extended period so I was only stuck there for about 8hrs waiting for my release paperwork to be processed. Horrifying experience nonetheless. This was in 2014.

In certain Southern States, all you need is "heresay" to get a formal arrest warrant out on somebody to have them dragged off to the loony bin.
