  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Yeah, I think around 30 is okay.
I'm 33 and If I ctb, people would probably say "Oh, he was still young" but after 30 I haven't felt young anymore lol

I'd say 40. By then you have enough life experience to know if you really are fucked or not.

I would say that anything over 30 would imply that the subject in question has seen enough of life to know that they wish to leave it. However, at the end of the day, this is a very subjective matter. If a 16 year old truly is not able to cope with life, or at least their own situation, then they can judge best what works for them.

I actually think it should be 25, which is when the brain is supposedly completely finished developing. I also have a very unpopular opinion that that age should also be the minimum age for everything else (drinking, voting, military service, consent, gambling, etc.) all for the same reason. I am aware that nobody would likely agree with me though.

Until we can actually make people happy instead of giving them vague advice that mostly doesn't help, I don't think there is such thing as "too young". As in, I don't endorse preventing someone from taking their own life, regardless of their age. Why should people be forced to make do with the terribly ineffectual 'solutions' we have today?

I think 25 needs to be a minimum age for mind altering substances or atleast the schools need to make students very aware of this fact. For example research points to marijuana and alcohol causing big problems for people who use it heavily during the crucial developing years , with the effect being much lower after the brain plasticity is gone

I somehow heard the fact about brain development at a younger age and decided to forego trying any substances until that age

Yes this too. I wish people would stop going "HURRDURR DRUG ALWAYS GOOD BECAUSE PEOPLE WHO DONT LIKE IT ARE DUMB".

I blame my heavy alcohol consumption in my early 20s for my brain being even stupider now than it was before and before it was already kinda below average.

I can relate. I think this is especially true for cannabis. Cannabis is so normalized, and venerated with such high graces, that the *extreme* harms to the developing brain are often criminally minimized.

Heavy adolescent cannabis abuse is one of the most overlooked causes for lifetime low-achievement. From the endless amount of literature I have read about the adolescent brain and high THC cannabis, I'm convinced that it is one of the worst drugs for the developing brain. Unfortunately for me, I smoked like 2 grams on average, per day, from ages 14 to 22. One of the worst decisions of my life. When you're younger than 25, you think you can handle the responsibilities, and consequences, of gambling with your brain like that, but you really have no ability to utilize logical foresight. When you're only alive for 15-20 years, you don't have much experience to know the true impact of making permanently life altering decisions, such as adolescent drug abuse.

OP, I don't think you're talking about suicide here, so maybe this thread should be in off topic.

Oh wow you're right I just noticed the OP just talks about what's too young for dying in general and not specifically 'how young is too young to CTB'.

I guess my answer for how young is too young for people that DON'T want to die is probably like under 50 I'd say. No special reason for that number I just think it's somewhere between 40 and 60

I don't really think any ideal, the earlier you die you're preventing yourself from more suffering

I'm 20 and I say, "fuck this shit I'm out." I don't want to wageslave for the rest of my life, so might as well just quit this stupid rat race.
