What do you all think? That's why I'm considering drowning, but I find it curious that many people seem to think jumping is better. I know drowning is painful, but I also understand that if you don't die instantly from a fall, you end up dying in agony...

Ugh. Both are bad. But for jumping, as long as you do it from high enough, it'll likely be instantaneous. Drowning won't be. Both ways of dying have the chance of surviving and being severely disabled, but jumping has a larger chance to be instantly lethal if you fall from higher up. Water is water, and you can't make it suffocate you faster (I guess…) Either way, the end result of your body in both will not be pretty.

If you die after the jump from a building, you won't feel anything for more than a millisecond.

The "if" is the wild card.

You could survive, and that would be worse than death.

I almost twice in the last two weeks - the first might have killed me, the second attempt probably would have left me paralyzed.

I won't tell you not to ctb, but please consider another method if you do.

Surviving a jump is not worth the risk.
Almost jumped twice in the last 2 weeks.

Does the fear of jumping still stop you even after drinking? Is it possible to survive a fall from 20 stories high?

Drinking may have saved me.

It is so strange.

I has this very coherent moment where I can recall being at the balcony rail, and might of jumped, but backed up. Alcohol was cheap and readily available at that time and place. I...backed off the edge, and sat down in a safe location.

For a while I was shocked at what I had almost done.

I am shaking now, just thinking about it.

It is OK, though. Don't feel bad.

I wouldn't reccommend drowning either, but it is your life and choice.

But, please don't jump.
20 stories has a high liklihood of death,,but is still potentially survivable.

I would have gone from 7 stories - and while it may have killed me, it may have not either.

If you choose to go this way, be very sure.

So many things can go wrong with this method.

It is not worth the risk, in my opinion.

Does alcohol affect everyone differently?Does it mean it can also suppress suicidal impulses?

Alcohol was secondary to my decision not to jump.

And, it didn't cause the impulse either.

I found myself in a place at a height with an open balcony.

Didn't know I would be there until two hours before, and I spent an hour in the room before I knew that the balcony was there.

Reason was there were so many people, some of whom I knew.

They would have been witnesses, and I couldn't do that to them.

But my mental state was - valid.

I really did want to jump, but somehow pulled myself from the edge.

It was very scary.

I sat alone near the balcony for ten minutes, and then got another drink.
And, while I was in a room full of people, I was so alone.

As I said in another thread, I "put on a show".

No one there knows what I almost did that night.

Some know that I was upset and why, but only readers of this forum know that I have been suicidal for 35 years.

The pain is always present, buts sometimes ebbs.
A week (last week) later, I was on another balcony.

That would have been too short of a drop.

It was tempting, but SI overruled impulse.

Are you also considering drowning?

No.

I am more afraid of drowning than I am of jumping.

Read (the book) The Perfect Storm.

You can watch the movie, too.

But the book really gets into what drowning is like.

I have a cousin who hanged herself.

Not a fan of that method.

My preferred method is to jump, but someone has convinced me that this is not good to do.

My alternative is SN.

I jumped 8 stories and I have life altering injuries. The consequences of survival are not worth it.

I wish that I knew how to make emojis with tears or hugs, but I think that they are available.

How can I figure out DSL, but not not that?

Anyway, FC17, be safe and at peace.

You are cared about, cared for, and loved.

Did you fall onto asphalt?
Do you think it's possible to survive a fall from over the 15th floor?
What about drowning from a railing or a bridge?

I fell on pavement. 15 stories is very high, but people have survived falling from planes. It's variable and the risks are not worth it. I couldn't comment on drowning but I'd imagine it would be extremely difficult to pull off.

If you hold down the like button the emojis pop up. There's plenty of clues on this forum to find dsl if you use the search function. Thank you for your kind words and good luck 🤍
