what happens to you? i dont know. What do you think happens after death?
of course, man is prone to fear, superstition and the power of imagination. i pretty much believe in no afterlife; but put me in a scarey situation and i can be veryscared! A G-g-g-ghost??????Get in a dug out grave with me and tell me you don't feel nothing
May I use that line on the next guy I date?Get in a dug out grave with me and tell me you don't feel nothing
The basic definition of God, disregarding regional flavors, is that it's something that does not depend on anything else for its existence. If there's no god then everything depends on something else for its existence, which makes a lot less sense when you start to unpack the logic. You're just claiming that it was God that came from nothing if you believe in one. How does that help you?
That might be the definition but that doesn't mean that definition makes any sense. You might as well skip a step and say the universe itself doesn't depend on anything else for its existence. The only reason why people accept that God can be uncaused is because God is such a vague and meaningless term that we don't actually have any referent in mind when we use it. So it doesn't strike us as absurd quite as readily. But you can't just define something into being. If the universe needs a cause then so does God.The basic definition of God, disregarding regional flavors, is that it's something that does not depend on anything else for its existence. You're reading what I said backwards, because you're hung up on the easily dismissed image of God as an old man on a cloud (with varying clothes and haircuts depending on where you ask). Does that something actually mean anything to you as a human being? Does its existence console you, frighten you, fill you with awe? Do you think it cares how you live your life? You're reading what I said backwards, because you're hung up on the easily dismissed image of God as an old man on a cloud (with varying clothes and haircuts depending on where you ask). Yes. You don't have to act so incredulous. I've already pointed out that being attracted to ideas is no different than being attracted to people. You can tell me that this particular idea is not "your type", but you can't distance yourself by pretending you don't understand, when you really understand very well, or that these sorts of feelings are foreign to you, when they really are not.Does its existence console you, frighten you, fill you with awe?
I actually think that's fascinating, I wish I were capable of not being indifferent to this something. I assume you don't believe that it cares if you're a loner or someone who lives to do as many wonderful things for other humans as possibleYes. You don't have to act so incredulous. i don't believe in anything but i'm not the type to call myself an "atheist" as if i'm proud of it. I wish i could believe i just don't see how its possible. What do you think happens after death?
