I think that I became addicted to the internet in my adolescence, when I lived in Venezuela, it was really difficult to have access to domestic internet services (Damn socialism) and the places where I could have access to it were limited, so I often made excuses to go to those places where I could have some internet.
My uncle had a business and it was one of the few stores with a good internet service, as he was a student at the time, he told me that when I need to do my research, I can go to his office whenever I want, I felt lucky for that.

Now that I am in a country where access to the internet is quite simple, it gives me a bit of encouragement, I don't have many friends or expectations so my life is limited to working, drinking and being on the internet.

Who else is addicted to the internet?

Yes, I'm totally addicted to it and my life basically depends on the internet.

I work online. I study online. I have fun online! (SS, watching youtube, series, anime, reading manga, playing videogames, etc)

I barely go outside. Buying my food is more than enough lol.

Edit: I'm even thinking of hiring one more internet provider so as to keep on being connected when the one I have now is down lol.

Yeah, I have been for a long time. I honestly just see it as an form of escapism from what is going on in my life. In my teenage years I found all of my favourite music from the internet and it was the one thing that helped me. I've always been pretty introverted and liked to isolate myself from others so the internet has been a big thing for me.

Not the internet specifically but distractions in general, and the internet happens to be one of the best distractions. It's tough for me to get addicted to stuff, I can drop caffeine and nicotine without much trouble.

Yes I am. Since I'm not comfortable to be around ppl I socialize largely through the internet. I've migraine headache so it isn't advised for me to be on screen to much but I still spend lots of time. It helps with the lonely. I like most ppl here but I wish I could also socialize irl without feeling worthless.

Yes, I always have youtube on in the background. I can't deal with silence, my thoughts get louder. I also have no interest in socialising anymore. I can't be bothered, talking to people is exhausting especially having to pretend everything is ok all the time. Internet is my "happy" place ha.

I'm online a lot and it's not a good thing. Times were better before the Internet and mobile phones were invented. Technology is only going to get more advanced and that's not a good thing. This world is already pretty fucked and it's only gonna get worse.

Of course. As much as I think I'm trash, I think most Millennials, Zoomers, and Gen A are internet addicts. It's sad. The internet age is the most connected humanity has been in human history, and yet loneliness is at record highs.

I wouldn't say I am addicted..I would say I am reluctantly reliant on it, as a distraction from my hell or as a way to converse with like-minded people who I find myself painfully far away from in my everyday existence.
The internet is both bad and good, I tend to stay away from typical social media for instance, but if the internet didn't exist, it would be a lot easier for us all to feel alone and for people to gaslight us into believing we are an anomaly and that our pain is some idiosyncratic pest that only serves to frustrate those around us.
Access to the internet is the closest thing I will ever get to freedom (and validation.)
But it's much like the outside world in that you still have to deal with a lot of assholes and a shit ton of other nonsense.
I do wish my situation was different so I did not have to "live" on the net, so-to-speak, although most of my journeys through the web are kind of anti-social and I think most people use it for the opposite.

There's no community spirit anymore. We used to call for our mates. Play ⚽
from dawn till dusk. Camp in the woods. Play knock out ginger. Play bull dogs. Go out on bikes. Pubs were better too and we could smoke in them. These days they have people who just want to fight. Now it's all whats app, Facebook, twitter, tik tok, snap chat, Instagram and god knows what else.

I probably am, but I dont do any social media, unless this counts.. But I must say if I heard the internet had been destroyed and could never come back it would make me extremely happy indeed. Hard to put this genie back in the bottle though unfortunatly.

Yeah I was so addicted that I didn't even treat my type 1 diabetes because I was too busy distracting myself my whole life with escapism instead of dealing with my problems. Escapism and distraction is no joke. I think it's worse than hard drugs in more extreme cases.
