The cause of death would be something along the lines of Acute Barbiturate Toxicity. As far as life insurance goes, the cause of death doesn't necessarily matter, it's the manner of death (Suicide, Homicide, Natural, etc...)
If your past the suicide exclusion and contestability period you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
Yes, toxilogical tests will make your cause of death abundantly clear and the circumstances should make it clear it was a suicice. You'll have to wait some time after taking out a policy.
Someone recently told me the disappearance clause takes seven years to mature after you take out a policy and that suicide can negate a policy. However, this person works in the medical field and said he recently saw a case where a triple digit amount of OTC meds was ruled as accidental in a pregnant lady. I think it depends a lot on the medical team and how sensitive they are about life insurance.
Yeah, the N will definitely show up and as barbiturates aren't commonly available foe human use (pentobarbital particularly) it will be clear it was suicide.
Where life insurance is concerned I think cover all bases and err on the side of caution.
