Does anyone else here drink alcohol to help with massive anxiety and panic attacks.
I keep getting migraines due to stress and traumatic life alcohol is the only thing that seems to help.
I go from being an anxiety ridden mess to idgaf attitude after a couple of drinks.
My life in a nutshell.

I'm not an alcoholic by any stretch but I have this self destructive streak that likes drinking until trouble starts happening. I become a different person under the influence, one drink = too many, 20 = not enough

I don't drink very often, but when I do, I definitely feel more chill and in a better mood.

No, but maybe my husband will be after he discovers the corpse he is responsible for. Then finally find the guts to hang himself in the family tradition.

Nah, he will just have fun.

Never liked alcohol and always avoided it. Was raised by alcoholics and had a bad taste in my mouth about alcoholism. As soon as my life fell to shit I've been drinking about a fifth of vodka a day. It doesn't do a whole lot for the massive anxiety and panic attacks it just slows things down a little which is something I can't do on my own. It's gotten to the point I wake up hungover and sick as hell and it doesn't even stop me. Currently one of my biggest hurdles to CTBing is putting the bottle down for a couple days so I can drink SN. I'm drinking within hours of being awake and cannot stop myself.

If you make sure to drink alot of water before you go to bed you won't get a hangover.
Hangover happens when your body takes water from your brain to help your liver process the alcohol you end up with a dehyrated brain.
I remember when i drank a full bottle of gin, and ended up with a headaches for 2 days straight because i was dehyrated.

Always envied and never understood people who can have one or two drinks and leave it there.
I tend not to stop until im drunk.
But can go long periods if needs be without drinking.

This is sound advice that I know is the problem but sometimes I get so drunk I don't even give a fuck about it. Something that also helps is sticking to a clearer purer alcohol like vodka that's preferably been at least triple distilled. I've got the local liqour store ordering cases of a triple distilled potato vodka from Poland because it's the only thing I can drink everyday.

I was, I've been sober for a good few years now after going through detox at 20.
It sucked, I don't think I'd bother going back to it.

I don't have a problem but as I don't have any support from mental health or social services and I'm being badly abused. I'm drinking to cope. I know I can stop at anytime so it's not a big deal I just need something to plug the gap.

I relate to this, i dont have much self control. So when I tell my self that I'll just buy a drink or two, 90% of the time it turns into many more.

This sounds exactly like me. When I drink I can't stop, I drink to get drunk. I hate the taste of alcohol. I can't have an alcoholic drink with a meal as I see no purpose for it.

I'm an alcoholic, 5 years in recovery and 5 years since my last OD attempt. Life without the anaesthesia is hard but generally is better most of the time. To all I wish you the best, one day at a time.

Yep, since covid started I've been buying at least a bottle or two of vodka per week and drinking every night, close to half a litre.

Just woke up feeling like shit, but by about 3pm I'll pour the first one. Hard to make it to 3pm on weekends though. I smoke weed with it too and it's just too enjoyable and there's fuck all else to do for me right now.

I have behaved as though I was one at various periods of my life but I never was. These days I hardly drink or toke. There was never any kind of physiological or other addiction. I guess I "depended" on it at times to be able to be social but it had nothing to do with alcohol in particular.

Same. I drink heavily and everyday. I don't really know if that means I have a problem, but I'm assuming it does. It's the only thing keeping me moderately functioning.

I have issues with alcohol, yes. I turn to the bottle to help me to feel better. I have to make a conscious effort not to drink every day, which I slip back into when I'm spiralling again. but I do drink at least 3-4 nights a week, even when I'm not doing my worst.

the crutch started when I experienced a lot of trauma. it was easy for me to put it to the back of my mind when I turned to the bottle. and since then I've had the same thing. I definitely have some level of dependence, and if I'm not drinking, I will always still smoke weed or do something to not be sober every day. I also can't store alcohol in my apartment because I will drink all of it if I do, so I have to buy alcohol on the basis that I already know I'll consume it that night. the cravings are relentless.
