My great grandma hung herself, my grandma drank herself to death and while what actually killed her was liver cirrhosis my family considers it suicide because even when she got to the point of throwing up blood and knowing she was passing she kept drinking. My father also hung himself and I've tried 6 times. I'm wondering if anyone else has a long family history of it as well. At this point it feels genetic. I know depression and mental health can be as well as the chronic health issues my family has but it's just so interesting in a sad way that my family has 3 and eventually will be 4 generations of suicide

Do you think there's any way out of your situation? That you could be the change? I'm just curious because I'm also hopeless

Unfortunately no, I'm autistic and very physically disabled. It's only seaming to get worse and I'm done fighting with doctors to figure out whats wrong. I've also been homeless for a few years and the way my family has treated me this whole time has just destroyed me honestly. I know I won't recover no matter how hard I try and what's the point in even trying when I won't have much quality of life and I'll still be homeless. I can't even get on disability cause doctors don't wanna deal with my case. They'll just say what it might be or tell me to go to psych.
I'm sorry I really wish I could encourage you, I'm just not in that headspace anymore
No but I heard it's common
That's sad

My mother had an unsuccessful suicide attempt and was prone to depression. Now I'm depressed, and I can't help but blame her for my condition. I understand it's not her fault, and now she's trying to help me.

P.S. Sorry for any mistakes. English is not my native language.

My grandpa killed himself before I was born, and my aunt killed herself when I was a teen. Both of these deaths are on my moms side of the family, which also has a long history of substance abuse alongside mental health problems. I would be the third suicide that I know of on that side of the family

Yeah, my parents are dramatically depressed / mentally ill and not long ago my cousins had to lay down the body of one of our uncles whom they found hanging in the bedroom of his house. It's intergenerational trauma.

As far as I know, not really. I know my grandparents on my mother's side likely died of other health related issues (not known what exactly as they passed when my mother was young (so like over 50-60 years ago). Also, on my father's side, my grandfather died of throat cancer (chain smoking and stuff), and my grandmother natural causes. As for my uncles and cousins, at least on my father's side, they were social drinkers and smokers, but afaik they are still around...

from my mother's side, yes. shit backgrounds of my great grandma and my grandma. i know that my grandma was depressed, apparently MDD, heavy smoker and drinker, i remember she was catether bound for the last years of her life, probably alcohol related. she was suicidal too, my mom once told me she had to save my grandma from herself many times. don't remember what she died from or anything else. i do know that my mom used my grandma's example of invalidating my own suicidal thoughts and self-diagnosis of depression because i didn't seem depressed enough, grandma was worse, etc. id say it skipped my mom but not me.

all my grandparents, ALL OF THEM, did what i call "indirect" suicides.
grandma got lethal injection by help of doctor,
my other grandma starved herself to death in a senior home,
my grandpa refused to go in the ambulance after his heart attack.

and my dad, we suspect he might have actively done it.
it was hard to determine. but it looked suspicious.
