I'm looking for suggestions (as well as uh, potential friends I suppose) ideally something that lets you shut off your brain and just kill time..

Won't help shut off your brain, but I think Outer Wilds is a really beautiful game that's worth playing if you haven't already

The Souls games are really addictive to me. Started Elden Ring in April and have been playing for 150 hours now. No cutscenes, just immersion in exploration, achieving new goals and overcoming challenges that require enough concentration to push thoughts of reality out of myhead

What genres are you interested in?

I've loved games with good storytelling, like Disco Elysium, To The Moon, Spiritfarer etc. helps you get lost in the world. Stardew Valley is a nice escape too.

I'm seconding the previous comment's suggestion on Souls games as well, if you're into that. There's just something about overcoming an oppressive environment through your own perseverance that clicks about them.

I love playing Medieval 2 Total War, especially as Scotland. It's a weak faction at the start of the game and that makes the game more fun I think, plus I like to pretend the priests are euthanasia doctors, so my faction will euthanize people who don't want to be alive.

I second Outer Wilds. Don't spoil yourself if you know nothing about it just play it. I wish I could play it again with no memories of it.

I've also been really liking Divinity Original Sin 2. Not exactly a "shut your brain off" kind of game since there is quite a bit of strategy involved but that's why I like it so much. The combat engages me so much that I can easily distract myself.

The other game I've been liking is Casualties: Unknown which has a free demo on Steam. It's a 2D survival game with a very in-depth medical system. Hard to learn but when you do it's fun.

Not a game I've played recently but Norco was a phenomenal indie title if you like games like Disco Elysium. It hit me hard in the feels.

Also Disco Elysium itself is a must if you like story driven games.

Otherwise I'm addicted to Hearthstone and Slay the Spire 2, and I play Starcraft 2 (silver 1 so not quite good yet šŸ˜…) when I feel I can handle the ladder stress

Also Slay the Princess is deceptively good

Blasphemous is probably my favorite, its really beautiful and fun. Pathologic, heavy rain, life is strange, detroit if you like story driven games

I'm a big fan of Stardew Valley. It helps with my anxiety because you set the pace and there's no deadline, it's very chill.
On good days I play RE4 or Super Mario Bros deluxe. I'm also on the fence about getting the new James Bond game for PC.
What're you playing?

I know it's old but Fallout 3 has to be my favorite game of all time. Great story, great lore, and a real sense of exploration. These days you can run it even on a potato PC. Won't shut off your brain but it'll draw you in and make you forget all your problems temporarily.
