i listen mostly to rach/mozart but chopin is my all time favorite to listen and play! would you be comfy to share your repertoire?
im a pianist too, with 2 years of playing and less than 1 of practicing with a piano at home
yesss mozart is great too! and rachmaninoff.. good taste :)
his Elegié has been one of my favorite pieces to listen to in the past little while.
any pianists you like in particular? have you ever heard of seong-jin cho?
when i started listening to piano music i went from yiruma at first, to some of chopin's nocturnes, and i ended up absolutely in love with chopin's nocturne 20, c-sharp minor to the point of wanting to learn it,
i've had a grand piano at home all my life (which is super lucky) because my mom would play some debussy, or church music. but she rarely really made use of it which was kind of unfortunate.
anyways, i could sortof read sheet music because i played flute a long time ago, but i had no idea on how to read the bottom bar and play with two hands simultaneously, so i saw these synthesia youtube videos and went on from there!
i basically stopped dumping time into video games and put it all into the piano, playing two hours a day on average at first id say, later on definitely more.
i havent had a teacher so far, and i'd (initially) learn from synthesia by memorizing short parts, learning a new part of the piece every other day.
this way i ended up learning nocturne 20 after about a month or two/three, still having some difficulty with the runs however.
then my attention went over towards fantaisie impromptu, which was a huge jump up in difficulty and i struggled with it for quite a while, only learning the first minute ( the fast part up until the slower middle section) after about three months, but actually getting it up to speed with the polyrhythm was hugely satisfying to say the least :')
then after fantaisie impromptu i got kind of crazy and went for chopin's first ballade, honestly my favorite piece in all of music, definitely wanted to play this one sometime in my life, and hurdle after hurdle, struggle after struggle, i've recently finished it about a month ago, took almost seven months.
i definitely can't play it to the quality many would desire it, some parts in the middle section are very tricky, and the coda as well ofcourse, but it is so so so nice to be able to play it
while playing and practising i've also practised a few other pieces but never really put effort into finishing them, it was such a chore with synthesia to memorise it.
about a month ago however i just decided to start reading music and start off (relatively) simple, i've finished chopins prelude 4 and im currently working on the first part of nocturne 13, and liszt's consolation 3
