I noticed that some people here have avatars of anime characters. I recently got into anime. The ones I've watched that I really like are Death Note (first season), Sword Art Online (first season), and The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity. I'm currently watching That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime. I'm overwhelmed at how massive this genre is. There are so many different styles of anime and so many good series that have come out of over the decades. If I live to be 90 I'll never have time to watch all the good ones. I read that so much anime comes out that even mega fans can't keep up with watching all the new releases.

What are your favorite anime series? How long have you been a fan? How do you find shows to watch since there is so much content?

i have been watching since 10 man. I am kinda jealous of you being a new fan , being able to experience all these anime i've watched would probably make me feel a lot better rn. I cant just say i have a favourite but i guess bleach since i rewatched it a lot and put my friends on it and its one of the first i have watched. What i used to do is either search anime like (anime you liked or category) or theres a lot of videos of compilations of either moments or genre. Unironically, one of the reasons i am still alive is i want to live to see cour 4 of the TYBW arc of bleach its basically the last arc up until now.

I've been into anime and other otaku stuff like visual novels since I was a kid ngl
I typically ask people I know for what they like or I look at myanimelist until I find a title or description that sounds interesting, sometimes I also just see shots from a show and reverse image search for it.

I'm kind of jealous of you lol. You've watched since you were a kid. I'm middle aged. I've missed out on a lot of good anime in my life. I mean there wasn't a means to watch it in the USA when I was a kid. There was no Internet and certainly no streaming services. I'm guessing if I had known what it was I could have gone to the video store and rented some VHS tapes but that's questionable. "Cartoons" I watched as a kid no realizing they were anime: Belle and Sebastian, Superbook, The Flying House.

Bleach - I was at a convention (don't want to dox myself and say which one) and someone told me about Bleach. I just looked on Just Watch and it's on Hulu. I don't have Hulu.

Same, I look on myanimelist until I find a title or description that sounds interesting. It can be so hard to choose sometimes.

my issue is I often find something that sounds interesting, but then it ends up being rather deceiving and I find myself disappointed

Yeah, I get that as soon as I find something that sounds interesting and start watching it. I feel like I'm on watch patrol to make sure it's not deceiving me and often times I found myself disappointed too

Jojo! It's my life blood. Someone once described it to me as powerlifting and anime form and I was in. I've been invested for almost a decade and I'm a ecstatic. We're getting an SBR anime.

my top 3 favorite anime

1. one piece (i think it's something everyone should watch at least once)
2. attack on titan (yeah it may be kinda disappointing for some people, but i genuinely enjoyed it till the ending and idk i have a really strong connection to this anime and especially its ost. linked horizon and shinsei kamattechan are absolute GOATs)
3. hunter x hunter (i'm not even a shounen fan why is my top 3 like this😭 but i think it says a lot about these titles, how me, not even being a shounen fan, was enjoying its well-written stories)

but i don't watch anime anymore. after one piece i realized that this is the best anime i've ever watched and it would be impossible to find something better. i ended up rereading the one piece manga (reading this massive story again, yeah, and it was worth it!), and after that i started reading more manga, and honestly i prefer reading manga over watching anime, because all anime is an adaptation of manga and the original source is always better, right??
not saying you should stop watching anime, it has its pros like great music, animation (obv), and there are some original anime titles like code geass (i recommend it to you, especially after death note!), madoka magica, gundam...
anyways good luck on your journey through japanese fiction, there are so many great titles out there!! and yes, you didn't ask for recommendations, but if i had to suggest one as one of your first watches, i'd say attack on titan would be a really good choice!
