If this has been posted and I've missed it, I apologise.

Cutting wrists has a certain theatrical cachet and historical pedigree but from what I've read, it it messy and has a low chance of success.

What about other parts of the circulatory system? The carotids or arteries in the foot? Would they work?

I was also wondering about the numbing cream used by tattooists as a precursor.

Not a method I've really considered so I'd be interested to know what people think.

And if you aren't going immediately to ctb - stay safe.

Realistically the best Choice would be femoral artery on the inner thigh

Femoral artery is hidden behing some muscle that it need to be cutted at the same time, it could be very painful.
Numbing cream used in tattoo are not that strengh, it help to reduce skin pain, but I think it's not enough to prevent muscle pain.

Maybe the artery near the thumb should be a less painful solution (i'm not sure), but I will be slower than the femoral one, and it need to be in a hot bath to prevent blood clotting.

no matter the artery, I don't think this method is very lethal.. compared to other methods at least.

Was going to go with this method before I discovered other methods. Now I don't think it's optimal. But yes if severing one femoral artery you can pass out in 10 seconds. The bleeding won't hurt but the act of getting to the artery will hurt. You have to cut deep to get it. If you're not an experienced cutter (don't recommend it) I would not use it.

Though I must note.

On a different site to this. There is a self-harm website. The people on there cut down to the bone and some nick arteries. They can do that because they are addicted to it and they have developed a high pain tolerance. I have cut down to fat on my thigh. I have quit though. It was sore at first but you build a pain tolerance. So the bottom line is.

If you're already used to cutting down to the bone/very deep in the leg then this method might suit you. But for the majority of us, we don't SH to that degree. We also have methods like SN and hanging that are suitable.

Agree. Even if I know my anatomy I'd still freak out from the blood and pain and end up with a half baked job.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think we all care about other people's lives more than our own :)

No. If you aren't practiced, finding a pulse, much less the artery itself, can be difficult. It also happens to be directly beside the femoral nerve.

Also the numbing cream in tattooing only works once the skin is broken- I have a lot of tattoos and I'm a
Wimp after a few hours- so not gonna work. I once smothered my leg with the numbing cream used for injection sites pre tattoo, didn't work ‍♀️

You'll need alot of lignocaine infiltrated around the area to adequately numb the region.

If you have access to adrenaline it helps to reduce the bleeding from the er.. Surgical site.
