Last night I was listening to a video of Raymond Moody where he was discussing his "research" into people who claim they can remember their past lives. I only mention the video because it's interesting to listen to, but I'm not really bringing it up to debate the validity of reincarnation. I don't know if reincarnation is real or not. Everyone has their own experiences and opinions and I don't believe you'll discover any real truth by simply discussing the topic.
What I did feel was worth mentioning though was that in the video Moody mentioned he had gained a peculiar insight from speaking with older people who claimed to have a Near Death Experience. He said he had noticed that there were many older people who, after reflecting upon their personal history, felt as if their lives had been scripted. In other words, they felt as if they had merely been acting out a story that was already written for them.
I think Shakespeare must have been thinking along these lines when he wrote:
"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts."
I know that I don't feel as if my personal story is all that important. I can say, however, that I do feel a little bit like my story was pre-written. Do you ever feel that way? There are a lot of things, in hindsight, that I don't feel I had much control over. It often feels as if I'm making choices in the moment, but the actual choices I have to choose from are limited. Never in a million years when I was younger, for example, would I ever have believed I would one day seriously consider suicide. Yet here I am. Here you are.
I know there are many others here too simply because they've become overwhelmed with the wish to simply end their life. To some degree, many of us have come to believe that our life has no purpose and that the pain of living has become too much to bare. But before you go and "catch the bus", I want to know...
Do you ever feel as if you are acting out a pre-written story? If so, what do you think was or is the purpose of your role? Who were or are the other major players in your life? What is your story about? Did you learn anything while you were here?
There's no wrong answers, I just want to know your thoughts and feelings about your story. Hopefully this makes sense and someone out there would take the time to share.
