People think they will age like wine. If you mean it turn to vinegar, you're right. If you mean it gets better with age, it don't.

I see ageing as being something so incredibly horrific and disturbing, it's something to be avoided at all costs, there is simply no benefit in being trapped here enduring endless days just to inevitably deteriorate as time goes on. It's insane to me how people see very old age as being something acceptable, to me the life expectancy is far too long. Just the fact that all that we are destined for is to age is why wanting suicide is the most rational thing. It makes sense to wish to refuse to delay our inevitable fate and prevent unnecessary suffering that would inevitably be experienced if one was to stay alive.

Agree, ageing is so horrific, I'm only in my early 30s and already can't stand the effects of ageing. So can't imagine for example being 60 or 70........awful

If you're unlucky in the gene lottery you also have to contend with inherited diseases. Countries with expensive health
care don't make it easy on the aging population either

With loads of cash handy, aging can be slowed and maybe soon reversed. Look at Mick Jagger at 80 - fully mobile. But for most it gets ugly fast. Especially if you don't care about self preservation.

It feels insane to me that we have to spend our (somewhat) healthy years working 5 days a week just so one day we can "enjoy" our retirement along with the deterioration of our body and mind.

I'm 50yrs and one of the worse thing's about getting older is seeing through the same eye's you looked through as a youngster and knowing that is a burden to say the least

That's what I also saw when I was at hospitals (for my health problems)... Some very old people were not even able to say smth more than yes or no. And screamed loud in the night for help because were not able to understand that they had to use a button for this.
And I don't mention what I saw in rehabilitation center. All that people after strokes......
Humans should really be like animals... Live smth like till 55 -65 years in an 30 y old looking body and dye like this (quickly).

Among the pictures I keep stuck to my frig with magnets are three of a great aunt probably born about 1900. One as a beautiful young girl in her mid to late teens, one as a middle-aged woman, the last as a shrunken elderly crone. Just to constantly remind me, as if, at 62, I now need any reminding.

Yes. My mom had alzheimers and spent the last several years in a nursing home. It's hard because she was our mom/wife. For me it felt like we were trading her freedom from suffering so we could have her here. She was a nurse all her life and I worked in a pharmacy. While she was still well enough, she asked me if I would help her leave this world (not have me "do it", just provide the means). She was my mom and I couldn't do it. She suffered for many years before passing this past April. Sorry for the long story- it helped me to put it in words. Bottom line- aging is not a walk in the park. There are those that may have good genes and age well. For so many aging is loneliness, pain and suffering.
Yeah it's pretty terrifying seeing what it does to people. The main reason I exercise and eat healthy is not to prolong life but to hopefully push back the age at which I will lose independent functioning.
