Acquiring a firearm for sucide?

I've been contemplating this method a bit but was worried about how difficult it would be to actually acquire a firearm. Does any psychiatric diagnosis on record negate your ability to purchase a firearm even if it was during childhood? Has anyone with a psychiatric record had any experience trying to purchase one, or maybe purchasing one illegally?

Before mentioning someone has to clean up the mess and that it could be traumatic for the person finding me, worry not, I'm actually considering this so I can minimize the impact on others. I have nowhere to hang myself or overdose without being found by my partner, but if I were to use a firearm I could simply drive out to an isolated area, tell him the coordinates and have police retrieve myself, the weapon and my vehicle.

US? I would think that would depend on the reason you were being treated. It may matter where you live, also. What's your diagnosis, if you don't mind saying? Not to be taken as advice, but at gun shows, there are private sellers that aren't required to perform background checks. This is the "gun show" loophole that is talked about a lot.

When I was younger I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder with psychotic symptoms and anxiety, but this is when I was a minor. I think it would be difficult for me to find a seller who doesnt perform background checks, especially in the city I'm in due to some gun violence that happened here a few years ago (big event, one you heard of on the news if in the USA). I don't want to get flagged snooping around for one or something… is that a thing? I've never touched a weapon in my life.

Finding a "gun show" is a lot harder in liberal cities like NY or Los Angeles, than say, Dallas, TX., or any Southern city really. Personally, I don't think you would have an issue, but I don't know for certain. If you go to guns shop, they are required to perform checks. What I was talking about are "private" sales between seller and buyer (you). There are lots of private sellers at gun shows.
