I talked a lot about suicide with my ex gf. She was not suicidal but always respected my point of view of life even though she was very sad about the fact I might leave this world someday.

Now, if I got a new gf and she was suicidal, we might talk about a ctb date but nobody will force anyone to ctb with them.

I don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend so I am not qualified to answer. However, I hope it would not be annoying of me to bring forth my thoughts on this matter in the form of a hypothetical. If I were to commit suicide (I know I will at this point) I want it to be my own. Though my reasons for suicide are controversial (revenge and pity based due to nobody giving a shit about me) I don't want to bring another person into that. Just because I want to end my life does not mean theirs should be taken away due to my selfishness. I would want them to live the best life possible, My suicide will be for me to do on my own only.

Me actually telling about my suicide plans and allowing the person who potentially loves me join me or leave me is actually the moral thing to do because
a) You give him/her chance to do it with you
b) If they leave you they will not feel that bad for your death

Very early on, we expressed our preference for dying in a controlled manner when we reached an advanced age (the late 80s~the 90s) where it was clear that our quality of life and autonomy were about to take a sharp nosedive. It was never something that we agreed to do together and it is possible that when we reached that point, our opinions might have changed. This is not the same thing however. Despite our struggles with mental illness and suicidality, I would have never asked him to enter a "suicide pact" with me. Regardless of whether or not it was with me, I wanted nothing more than for him to be able to recover and happily live out a full life. I would have wanted to go on my own and for him to be happy and well. I wanted this so much that it hurts to write.

Of course, I realise that my saying this is hypocritical, because if there was really no way to pull him back from the ledge and save him, I wished so much that he would have allowed me to die with him when he decided to kill himself. I know that it is cruel and that a lot of what I am saying comes from a place of grief. I don't think that he would have wanted me to die either...actually, if I were to trust my heart, I know that he would have wanted me to live. I don't know. I don't know. I should have been better.

My boyfriend is not suicidal. It is because of my love and respect for him that I want him to remain that way and live a fulfilling life, not make him miserable, guilt trip him and drag him down with me. The sad thing is, if I asked him to, he possibly would consider it for my sake. The difference is I'd never want him to. What a waste of a kind, loving soul that would be - to attempt to force someone who actually wants their life, to die with me.

Disagree because that would imply that suicide is immoral or mostly immoral. By forcing them to have a discussion and not letting them to weasel out your are saving lots of suffering and a horrific death. I would argue its evil not to prevent such horrible fate if you can .

No human is immune to old age and its ailments. Almost all old people are lonely and suffering .
