I feel like it's a separate thing altogether; CO is not inert

If you use CO you have to ensure that you don't have any other people in neighbouring rooms as CO can surpass walls and endanger and seriously harm other people. So you could do it in a room cabin or something similiar if you don't own your own house.

It maybe depends on the amount of CO in the room which you can only estimate with tables from the internet in regard to amount of quality charcroal you burned / size of the room. I had one attempt in my life which was 2017 with CO. I first slept after 15min and then woke up again in an unoriented and sick state I wouldn't wish anyone to experience. Others however seem to be succesfull, many reports of accidental intoxication too when people didn't know that the chacroal they burned at a bbq is not meant to be carried into enclosed rooms.
