Read the PPH. It is designed for the elderly and people with chronic illness, therefore its methods are minimally painful.
-holding the bag open after having taken sleeping pills, with the onset of sleep resulting in you letting go of the bag and it closing over your neck
-Usage of other gas (nitrogen, usually) that does not cause the same panic effect as carbon dioxide

A pillow may work, but a bag is better.

I am aware of our language difference, and I understand that I may have not got what you meant. However, the bag is held open by you, and when you fall unconcious, the elestic band pulling the bag shut will pull it shut, cutting of new oxygen flow into the bag.
