Jesus. Please go to care about something real, and disconnect from this shit. It makes no one happy.

If the entire reason you put your sobriety is over a politic candidate, I'm sorry, but the blame isn't on Trump. This isn't the first suicide menace I hear about politics and legitimately makes me fucking scared of what is going on these heads.

Not necessarily - you ever hear of incremental change theory/incrementalism?

"In public policy, incrementalism is the method of change by which many small policy changes are enacted over time in order to create a larger broad based policy change."

A political power basically "plays the long game" to gradually shift paradigms over time, and because it happens so slowly, people aren't alarmed about it and may even become agreeable to these changes due to long-term exposure to certain ideas that appeal to their emotions/bias.

Also, just found this gem on Matt Walsh's Twitter:

second, if you're someone who won't feel the negative affects of this, if your literal rights will not be under threat, don't tell someone how to feel. it's a bad look.

i'm getting drunk. have fun arguing.

A disappointing number of responses in this thread are dismissive and invalidating in their nature.

In what other context on this forum would it be acceptable to challenge someone's suffering or challenge the reasons why someone is feeling suicidal?

Quoting for emphasis, as it appears to have been overlooked or ignored in large part:

Your post totally resonates with me, even though I don't know how related the details of what we've been through are. For me it's that I've already been through a lifetime of homophobia, medical violation, having my autonomy and rights disregarded, and I have zero will to put myself through any more of that than is guaranteed just by the awful people that are already out there... I've already seen too much of the evils of humanity and have no will to be around when they're backed up by laws and policies that give them a free-for-all to do it without consequence.

And I interpreted your post as saying that using allowed you to continue living the first time, but you know not even that would work now. Makes sense to me.

A person that replies with "go care about something real" isn't affected by Trump's policies in ways that make their life hell. They see it as just "politics" as if we're talking about things like a road tax or the yearly budget... rather than things like basic equal rights and protections from discrimination. Some people are in a position to live their daily lives with those policies never affecting them, while others will be forced to encounter them even if they try to heavily avoid them.
holy shit. all of this EXACTLY. thank you for making me feel seen.

The situation will be bad. But instead of disconnecting and turning the media off, you are letting it affect you more. The things is we can't solve this in this exact moment, and drowning in doom is the absolute last thing you need right now.

One things is to be worried, but this is on another whole plane. Personally, I can't believe this mental health neglect is not only seen correct, but encouraged, and I'll speak about what I consider wrong.

Because believe it or not, even if I dislike politics, I still have morals. Shocking, ain't it?

The problem with this messaging is that it's tantamount to saying, "Just stop thinking about it."

It's a simplistic solution that minimizes the significance of the other person's suffering and implies something along the lines of, "Just stop complaining."

I'm assuming (hoping) that no one here would respond to a regular thread on this forum by saying, "Just log off this site, think about something else, and stop neglecting your mental health." It's the same idea here.

People need a place to let their feelings out and feel heard and connected with other people who understand what they're going through. This is the kind of support they need. But when they're met with dismissive or invalidating responses as seen in this thread (and all over the forum elsewhere today), this has the opposite effect: It adds to their feelings of being isolated, unheard, unwelcome, and marginalized.

You don't need to think on it 24/7 tho.

I meant small breaks. Some hobbies or something. Clearing your mind or change it from some fears.

But to suffer all the day cannot be defended as healthy even if you were right. What you are doing, IMO, is justifying constant anxiety. And like that isn't viable either.

If an idea makes you want to die I don't think it's OK to say "sure dude, go ahead. You have no future šŸ‘ļø", even less letting people reinforce their fears. If I see something as damaging, I don't think I should "protect" people out of that danger.

and stop neglecting your mental health
If you really think checking this politics all day is helping yourself when they're trying to die, I end this discussion.
