What are you talking about?

Here's an article explaining how developmental psychology plays a role on IQ.

Not to mention that the fundamental basis of who we consider has high IQ is extremely unscientific. For example, people think and hypothesize that Einstein and Stephen Hawking could have had 160 IQ, when they never took IQ tests. And here's a quote from Stephen Hawking: "People who boast about their I.Q. are losers".

If you don't want to bother going through the literature to find what the IQ test measures, here's a very simple explanation:

sure you can use enviornment to boost your iq by like 4-5 points. But your Maximum potential IQ is in you dna and cannot be increased

I don't understand why people are going against the OP so much. It's understandable to be envious of those who are better than you even if these people are rare. It genuinely hurts seeing people do stuff more efficiently and more adequately with minimal effort. For those who say to not compare ourselves to these people, have you considered at how it's nature and life who is also comparing us to others too? We get compared at school when our grades are determined relative to the rest of our cohort's performance. We get compared in life situations in numerous ways a few including being at work, at relationships, at friendships and at how well we perform against others as a whole. Comparisons are inevitable

I semi understand what OP is going through because I've been hurt at seeing others socialise with each other with no effort at all whilst I struggle with communication and social skills due to autism. It hurts to see most people talk so coherently and succinctly to each other, especially at interviews and in the workplace as they value social skills hugely. It hurts at how weak I am when compared to others and it's so bad to the point where death can level the playing field for me and recover from my inadequacy as dead people can't really care about being adequate enough

Because op has a bit of a wrong idea of what IQ actually is.
Op seems to think IQ determines your success which is largely false.
Additionally op fails to understand that a few extreme examples aren't indicative of the general population.

This is a vent, it's understandable that op feels upset, most of us feel that way when we see even normal people living their normal lives as if it was... well normal, while we struggle with getting anywhere close to that.
It's just a bit much to downplay other peoples achievments and begrudge their success, it's not fair but that doesn't mean those people did anythning wrong.

Iq doesn't matter only applied intelligence does. There's a reason Elon musk is the richest but not the smartest person in the world. It's because iq doesn't mean shit if you have no street smarts and no way to apply it. If you have a 160 iq but you still get robbed by someone dumber then bricks then your iq is worthless

I'm not convinced the world is nearly as meritocratic as some people believe, even taking into account the kinds of contributions people might bring that are valuable for certain situations but are outside of what IQ tests measure.

DNA still matters though and a lot of people believe it matters more than schooling (which might be true). Since most people obtain happiness by successfully competing against others, to the extent they become aware of their inability to compete well enough to be liked and respected by those around them, finding happiness gets harder. If they have enough of a social life they might just keep going and focus on the world of average people. If they don't have that or were raised in a culture that undermines that possibility, they will be, at a minimum, mildly suicidal until they finally self-deliver. In a world that strives for excellence for the sake of excellence, it doesn't make sense to keep breeding losers or keep the inferior alive. That's so horrible or something i guess. Too bad this world and most people in it are horrible.

Hello,

Assuming your title (140+ IQ) represents your true IQ, you are highly intelligent by any standards. An IQ of 140 is at the 99.62nd percentile (1 in every 261 people). There was a tiny chance you would be as smart as you are, so consider yourself blessed. There's always going to be someone smarter—even the girl with an IQ of 160+ will have someone smarter than her. Count your blessings. Your IQ is technically in the "genius" category; it's nothing you should ever feel ashamed of.

If IQ is a metric of your collective intelligence (it's not), then a person with a supposed 140IQ would not think that having a 160IQ is all that's required to succeed in this world. Kind of an oxymoronic statement, but it's the truth.

I agree with you. IQ is decent at measuring academic intelligence (your potential to do well in school), but it doesn't capture intelligence as a whole. And it's certainly lacking perspective to believe that one should be a super genius with a 160+ IQ to be successful. IQ isn't everything. It makes things easier, sure, but it doesn't do the work for you.

Yeah and even with that academic intelligence part, research has found that it's mostly the STEM subjects that benefit from having a higher IQ. EQ is a lot more important for disciplines such as humanities or even social science.

Oh, and even then academic intelligence is very different from academic performance. Plenty of extremely talented people fail classes because they have terrible work ethic.

I didn't wanna say it cuz I didn't wanna come across as rude but kinda proves the point that iq doesn't mean much at all.
Considering op's statements to be true they're an extremely smart person that still has to work really hard and has trouble understanding things like everyone else.

you literally are one of those "high iq" people, so shouldn't like every company want you? according to your point.

It does make me feel incredibly bad that there are people out there who are so extremely talented that they don't have to work at or practice their craft at all, they are just naturally good at it. I think if I were naturally good at something it would give me a purpose to live. I am naturally terrible at everything and I no longer have the energy to exert to want to improve or get good at anything. Life is luck based.

We can all find people who have better lives, and people who have worse lives. The struggle is to find a way to be in our own life.
