I do believe that the end has come for western societies. I have a hunch that we will see the USA crumble, and the European Union may collapse, after which assume that there will be war among various countries in a not-too-distant future, meaning between France and Germany, for example.

I don't know anything, though, so I'm just speculating, but I don't see how we can rebuild our societies after the Corona pandemic, the economic downturn and potential wars between the west and Russia and China have done their worst to this world.

We have crossed the Rubicon...

Yes, soon countries such as the USA and UK will be too corrupt to be seen as democracies anymore.

Can't be guessing about economics or geopolitics, but the culture has already been destroyed (casual sex, social media). The problem ultimately lies in the biology, so when we stop checking it this shit happens.

It's on the decline and will continue unless, at least in the US, people get their heads straight and work on problems instead of frothing for their team. Not sure what it will take to do this, probably some near cataclysmic event or a war with PRC or Russia (which would have to be nuclear to cause any concern on this side of the pond). There was a blip of realization when 9/11 hit and people realized you could die at anytime regardless of class or any other "important" quality. Since the media, tech, and politicians run on controversy and screaming there's little chance it will change.

Yes. I think society worldwide will collapse soon, in the next 20 years maybe. Many world leaders and companies are not interested in helping people. In the USA it is illegal to patent a device that breaks the mainstream accepted laws of physics. Many things have already been invented that would make the world a better place but it's all made illegal to keep everyone in a fight for money and resources

Yes I think Western societies are going down. There are several reasons.
One is demographics.

But the way bigger factor. Other countries are catching up. Their growth economically and in power rises way faster.
Not sure when but it is likely that in some decades China will be more powerful.

But there are some variables we don't know. Will China ever transition in the direction of democracy? If yes will there be a civil war? I mean today we are close to a recession and Russia plays a big roll in that. I don't want to imagine what happenes when we have to break up supply chains to China.

There is one other big factor leading to the decline of America- the national debt- this is such a huge problem. China keeps buying up more and more in the u.s. due to their huge financial surplusses. The downfall of other top nations has been caused in effect by this issue- it's a huge problem. There are different possible solutions, but none will probably work because people in power mostly only care about the money they get now, not the effect on the country long term. You have huge companies, like amazon, not paying taxes due to "creative" accounting, as well as many wealthy people doing similar things to dramatically reduce their taxes. Neither party has ever come up with a realistic plan to deal with this. There will be a crisis point, still down the road, after which america will lose power and prestige in the world at an increasing rate. Republicans want to balance the budget by taking away social programs from the most poor, Democrats want to tax the rich, neither side will listen to a common sense middle ground.

I'm not even sure the human race can avoid an all out nuclear war for two hundred more years- that seems close to a 50/50 chance to me- I think you're a lot more optimistic than I am.

I have doubts about whether God i8ntervenes in the world- if he doesn't intervene to help the 20,000 people, mostly children, who starve t death every day, why would he care about this. He may care in the next life but it doesn't look like he will intervene here. You have billoionaires so selfish taht they buy $500 million yachts instead of saving so many starving people like they could with this money. God does not normally seem in intervene much here, though some stories seem to show prayer workng. I'm not saying prayer never works, maybe it does sometimes, but mst prayers don't seem to.

Yeah it's kind of comical how mass starvation, war, disease are all fine, but apparently homosexuality and transgender is the worst evil ever. Imagine if these Christian fundamentalists channeled all their tireless anger and energy into solving actual problems.

But if they solved problems, who will they use as slaves in their mining and manufacturing operations overseas? All those kids without a job, the horror.

Chaos would finally make life fair. Everything on an even keel for once. That is if it was true Chaos and there was no string pullers.
That's a world I wouldnt feel so much anger against. Where as this corrupt hell when you get gang raped it's several levels of societies responsible where as in the other world it is just the perpetrators.

The UK certainly feels like it is... Can't talk for the US. Starting to think all countries have their dirty secrets. Reckon it's all just a case of those with power exploiting those with none.

I think any form of chaos would be like one big prison, those strong enough take from those weaker and so on. What would stop that? Not that current society is grand but the idea of a world of individuals working in some unselfish way seems like a big pipe dream. Life's just a question of who's screwing you, how hard, and will they hug you afterwards.

True. Even though I don't like society, law and order keep people's animalistic nature in check. They exist to control people, and people need to be controlled. If society collapsed, then it would be a free for all. The idea of a world of individuals working in some unselfish way *is* too good to be true. It'll never happen. People are greedy, selfish and self-interested by nature. There will never be a utopia. In a world with no rules, the strong *would* dominate the weak. It would be like the animal kingdom. It would be like The Purge everyday

Mostly just rehashing what I've posted before but…

The US have all the ingredients to remain the dominant superpower for centuries to come, but they also have all the ingredients for civil war.

I know that as long as the United States maintain its vast nuclear stockpile it will forever remain a superpower. Even if it fell out economically, no country that has the capability of ending life on the planet will be easily ignored.

A US passport will still be the most valuable for at least the next 100 years. The State Department is generally pretty good about helping stranded Americans.

Maybe the dollar is gonna be like the Pound and London soon. Very valuable but you can't afford anything here. And most people in England don't make much. The US dollar enjoys the world reserve currency status. Depends on economic performance... short term yes and then? The future it will probably be the dollar and possibly also the Chinese renminbi. Not yen or euro.
England has all that banking vestige. Its a former power with a tiny population. The US has a big population and we can still build things… I think its going to continue to be comfortable living on an international scale in the US. But I think money is going to become harder to get.

Look at 20th, 19th century Russia before its collapse: really advanced cultures with language and nuance and etiquette.
I look at these amazing speeches and literature by great leaders like Lincoln and I wonder why we don't have that anymore today but it's also examining a modern day phenomenon through the perspective of a historical lens. 🤷‍♀️

I compared art from the renaissance and other periods then compared it to today and asked what it says about your cultural / intellectual sophistication / value… 🤷‍♀️

You can make an argument that the US is losing influence in certain regions of the world and that they might not win a major conflict centered around Southeast Asia or Eastern Europe.
