If you are in a place where a mass shooting is happening, would you run towards the shooter and ask to be shot? I would.

I have often fantasized about this. Wished for it. Though it's hard to say what I'd actually do if it happened for real.

But I'd rather not have mass shootings to begin with when I think about it.

No, because he might just shoot out your eye or your teeth or he might just destroy your spinal cord, too risky---For example, The Aussie maniac in New Zealand shot 91 Muslims but 40 of them still made it

Hells no. If anything, I would hide.

Dying is one thing. But if I'm gonna catch the bus, I'd prefer to do it peacefully, on my own terms.

Although not specifically a mass shooting, I have fantasized about saving another person's life during an accident/disaster/crime at the cost of my own. A person who wants to live gets to live while I get to be thought of as a hero instead of a "selfish" person for dying by suicide.

It's really just a silly fantasy, though. It's more likely I'd be paralyzed by fear.

Very true. unfortunately he went back to shoot injured/ people playing dead so if he didn't do that the injury count would be even higher.

Yeah in an ideal scenario I'd be the only one shot dead via a shot to the brain stem. I would not want anyone else to be injured or killed by him.

If this was to actually happen for real I'd most likely freeze or run away despite my fantasy

I would at least try this in someway as well. Maybe use myself as a distraction because I have nothing to lose. But who knows, it is easier to say than do. I might in reality just chicken out and run, then go back to being suicidal after the shooting is over.

However I would not want to have mass shootings happen the first place...
It is haunting to think about how everyone was having a ordinary day, thinking about what they might fo tomorrow. The next second later, gone in an instant.

If there was a shooter I wouldn't mind throwing my life away to stop him. I can die and be a hero. Win-win.

Yeh I've done that too. I'd love to be the "hero" but in reality, from my little experience of stressful/scary experiences I try and get away from them as quick as possible. I guess flight response kicks in naturally. I don't know if that's because I'm a woman, I'm sure there are heroines but much more likely for a man to be brave I guess.

No. I suspect all the people here saying they would would act differently in reality. The survival instinct is powerful. Besides, I wouldn't want some maniac to shoot and possibly injure me, paralyze me, or force me through a slow, painful death that is unnecessarily drawn out. I want to go on my own terms. When, where and how decided by me

Bruh.

If they agreed to shoot me in the brain stem, hell yeah. Doubt they'd discuss such matters with civilians though.

It's hard to predict what I would do… I once had somebody break into my house - without thinking I actually ran at them screaming "I'm going to kill you… " And chased them away - The person was unarmed and I don't remember doing any of it… It just happened instinctively… With an active shooter I imagine I would probably just hide…

Not if he's trying to shoot me. He needs to do that first.

intresting question, i have thought about this before and my answer has flip flopped between yes and no but ultimately i think not. i don't want my death to be a public spectacle. also, my family waiting to hear if i lived or not for hours (usually how those things go) would be agony i would never wish upon them.

I have imagined this scenario before. I calmly look the shooter in the eyes, unafraid of the impending death. He notices this, and we mutually share some understanding through our gaze; we are both broken. I point to my head and say, "make it painless". Then I close my eyes accept my freedom.

You know, I'm just not sure. I usually go with the "freeze" option out of "fight, flight, freeze," so I pobably wouldn't go out of my way to try and hunt down an active shooter (...with the intent to do what, exactly? Tell him "it gets better" and not to choose a "permanent solution to a temporary problem?" I hear it also always helps if you tell them to lose weight, too, lol.)

On the other hand, if I were suddenly confronted with an active shooter, would I lock eyes with him and hope he understood my silent plea for deliverance?* Yeah, I probably would. It might even work.

* My apologies to the statistically more rare but still valid female and enby active shooter populations.

No, I think fight or flight response will take over. Either hide or go fight the shooter. It requires some professional training to stay calm in emergency and tell the shooter, "here, here, shoot me, here at the back of my neck... a bit higher..."

I doubt it. The idea of dying in some sudden accident is appealing in the sense that the task of ending my life is taken out of my hands but I end up dead regardless. But I highly doubt in an active shooter scenario that would be my main concern. I'd probably be panicking and reacting quickly without forming a whole lot of rational thoughts around my actions beforehand.

I literally was on the train this morning thinking, why am I never in a situation of subway shooters. I pictured myself walking toward them, dropping to my knees and saying please kill me
