• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Would you compete in the Squid Game?

Back in the fall of 2021 when Squid Game was first released on Netflix, it became an instant hit and it was all the rage for months. Though I had never seen it, I knew of the premise and thought it was an interesting plot.

Around the turn of the new year, the second season was released, and the hype returned. I found myself with an interest in the series and right before typing this, I had just finished the first episode of the first season, and though I'm usually not one for movies or TV series, I have to say I like it so far.

It made me think, I wish the games were real. I'd sign up in a heartbeat. I'm curious what the rest of you think. Though I feel the series is very well known by now, I don't want to spoil anything just in case.

The premise of Squid Game is that 456 people compete in a series of games, with the winner promised a very large cash prize. However, those who lose are killed.

Squid Game seems to be the quick way to die. But, if you watch the series, it's clear that not even everyone can be so lucky/fortunate to have a quick death. A miss in gunshot can result in some 'unlucky' people got operated vivisected alive for the fresh organ market. Now, that's something I don't want to.

But yeah, I especially do like & even agree with that old man character (Oh Il Nam) in episode 2 of the first season (2021) said when comparing to our real world / real life / reality:

"Now that I'm back out, I realize everything they said is true. It's a worse hell out here." (here means the real world / real life / reality here which we're living everyday)

It depends. If my attempt with SN were to fail, I'd definitely sign up for the squid games. Otherwise, I wouldn't

This is on my list of things to watch. Coming a bit late to the party so to speak, but I've heard good things

No. I don't want to be killed, especially not for spectacle or sport. If I'm going to die I want it to be my choice.

It's a good series. But no, I wouldn't want to be killed or maimed for sport or to knowingly provide entertainment for rich arseholes. Also bear in mind that later in the games, the whole 'kill or be killed' feeling may push a person- even you to kill others to avoid being killed yourself. So- there's that also- would you want their blood on your hands? Would you want to witness a bunch of people dying horrificly?

I guess it would be ok if you worked out how to get shot in the first game and went quickly but, would SI let you?

I don't want to give away spoilers to you... I'll leave a gap- if you want to skip the next bit. It's not a complete spoiler but, it's suggestive of future episode content...

Also consider- they may not want all clean kills if they have other uses for the bodies...

If I was able to enter into it I would. I know my death would be painful but at least I know I will probably die during it as I am definitely not going to win.

I haven't seen season 2 but from what I remember about season 1 I don't think I would enter because the ways to die seem too painful and the prize money isn't even THAT much for the average Californian. Plus I would very likely fail that application game where the random stranger collects people to play so I likely wouldn't even get to enter. 😔

The premise of squid game is that people don't know beforehand that they have signed up in deadly games. Would be funny spin-off if people knew and only suicidal people sign up that keep running during the green light game. I would participate as most deaths see, to be involved getting shot

I am already participating in a capitalistic rat race for the entertainment of the rich, why would I willingly sign up for another one?

When I wrote this thread, I had only seen the first couple episodes. Now through the first season and two episodes into the second, my perspective has changed, even if slightly.

What I had not realized is that like the games were indeed a form of entertainment for, as @Forever Sleep put it, rich arseholes. Indeed, for the final two games, we learn that there are VIPs who are invited to watch in real time and bet on the contestants. Additionally, the Front Man reveals that he does not think highly of the contestants at all, referring to them as "horses" and "trash" among other things.

Despite that knowledge, I feel like I'd still want to compete, given the advantage of knowing what the games are and that losing means death.

Sure, I may be seen as nothing more than a racehorse for rich arseholes to bet on, and my death as nothing more than a brief moment of entertainment for said arseholes, but in the grand scheme of things, aren't we all going to be forgotten by history? Whether I die at the hands of some triangle-masked guard or by my own bullet doesn't really matter.

Tangent over, I guess. Just had to get my thoughts in writing.

I can't believe it's been so long since the series release. Time is so murderous...

Need to watch it, I planned to watch together with my girlfriend and simply forgot. Thanks for the "reminder", @Sans !
