Discussion Worried about train coupling + speed

Hi!

[English isn't my mother tongue, so please be aware of possible language incorrections].
Note to start with: I know that many of you in this forum really dislikes the method of railway suicide. I'm not interested of your opinions of that. I just to have information about the actual method.

So now to my questions:

This is the commuter train which I hope to face within a near future. I would rather have a big plain hit. So I'm really worried about the big coupling. Does the coupling matter at all? Will it be for the good or the bad? How will the body react? Will I first be hit with the coupling and then be forced upwards towards the window or rather down to the track or maybe thrown away forward?

What is the recommended speed for a fatal attempt? It's really hard to tell how fast the train will be going att my spot but I think around 60 mph - 100km/h.

Please share your thoughts!

hello! it is my humblest opinion that you are overthinking it. :)

i think, if someone were to lean forward or otherwise kneel in such a way to make their skull inline with the coupler, that the impact would be most likely fatal.

I'm definitely an overthinker. That's my personality. I am all thinking about what can go wrong more than what can go right. That's unfortunately why I'm still here on earth :(

I definitely think kneeling would be a good position. Do you have any ideas what minimum speed of the train would be like?

your post got me thinking about the mechanics of train suicide, after all!

not sure about minimum speed -- probably there are studies online -- but i'm inclined to take the view that more speed is only a good thing. perhaps there are straight sections of track where the train can reach its maximum service speed (or close to it)? access is a consideration, of course.

It's really hard to be an overthinker. Seems like 12 year olds are managed to CTB without even thinking about it. Feels unfair.

Yes, there are high speed parts who are accessible pretty easy. I'm thinking about what speed will be the optimal to die pretty constant and at the same time as there will be a pretty decent body after death. So I'm both concerned it will go either to slow to not kill me instantly or to fast to splash me totally. But I guess it's almost impossible to know the optimal speed.
