I posted b4 about my concerns about SS being shut down or banned or censored. I understand it is officially banned in some countries. Today I was in a place of business and hooked into their wifi. While I was connected to their wifi I could not access SS even though I got the app downloaded on my phone. They still effectively blocked it. I know businesses can do that with wifi systems. I have run across that problem before with other places and other sites. Some places may block porn sites or whatever they deem inappropriate. I don't understand how the technology works but they can somehow do it. It made me worry again about the assaults on this site and I read there's a couple of asshole politicians in Congress working on a bipartisan bill to ban SS in America. I hope it fails but with 1 asshole from each of the dominant corrupt political parties I fear this is gonna easily pass. No gutless politicians are going to want to appear to be pro-suicide. I am concerned about future access in America to this site.

This will literally never happen. Even if a bill was passed to try to ban sites like this, courts would strike it down as a 1st amendment violation. America, where this site is likely hosted, has some of the strongest speech protections in the entire world.

It doesn't matter if SaSu gets banned in america. Just use a VPN. I'm banned from SaSu due to me being in the UK but I'm here replying to your post right now

Here's a brief explanation of how websites can be blocked. When you use the internet, you have an ISP (internet service provider), kind of like a middle man. They allow you to connect to the world wide net, by setting up a link between you and them and then, to the internet. They do the technical stuff so you don't have to. So companies like comcast and verizon etc. Since they are where all your internet goes through, they see what you do. If you are a business, and let's say, you don't want people using your internet to connect to shady websites, you can tell your ISP to block traffic from certain websites, which is what happened for you. It doesn't matter what device you're on, you're basically still using the same connection/middle man.

This isn't something to worry about. It's basically up to the business and how they are setup with their ISP; sometimes, the businesses may not even know all the sites that are blocked, because ISPs have like packages you can buy which come with all the services you need blocked and then some. So this isn't something to be alarmed about, it's not like it's a sign that this website is in trouble. Just that some people go the extra mile to ensure sites like these are not easily accessible.

It's not that easy to just ban a website from an entire country. Especially, I would think in the USA because freedom is an important thing to most people, regardless of what their view is. There are a number of loops a bill has to go through before it's law so we could all be dead by the time it's even brought for presidential approval. Absolutely nothing to worry about. Even then, there's still VPNs you can use to access this site; a vpn is a way for you to hide your internet activity from your ISP so they don't see what you're doing and you can bypass any restrictions they set up. It's not as though being banned from the country means the site would be ceased by federal government.

I don't see this website so easily going down, regardless of the hate. There is also the Dark Web, a whole other deal. We could use that.

Point of all this is, you're worrying too much.

Aren't there some sites that you can't get in America unless you use Tor or something like that to get on the dark web? Like overtly racist sites and sites that are selling illegal drugs or claim to be? America is nowhere near as free as they claim and there is a lot of speech being shut down on social media sites.

Yes, there are websites like that. Let me say this first, there are websites that are only available on the dark web, not because they are illegal, but because it has a lot more privacy than the regular web. SS has an onion site mirror (a darknet website), which I would assume for people in countries where it's highly censored.

With the case in America, I understand saying things are free is an oversimplification. What I mean is, censorship is much harder to achieve in the USA. They can easily ban or cease any dark net websites conducting illegal ventures in the USA, but they have to be criminal. SS is technically not violating any laws by its existence which is why I say, with regards to things that aren't illegal but not socially accepted, the USA does a better job of leaning towards freedom than censorship.

For instance, with how much debate is going on over TikTok, and even labeling it as a Chinese communist threat to US democracy, it is still available everywhere years later. Meaning it's not so easy to shut things like this down.

I don't know well but I know that in America there is freedom of speech which makes this website legal as long as the creator of the website doesn't force you to kill yourself so you don't need to worry

Like others said, this site has a tor mirror that I doubt could ever be taken down unless the server host's country explicitly steps in. I browse here with the Tor browser so my ISP won't be able to track my usage of this site but I'm sure I'm being overly paranoid. Also, apparently this site has actually been taken down a few times before but it has came back every time.

Land of the free, my ass. For a country that claims to be a beacon of free speech, freedom of information, and individualism, the United States sure loves to spy on it's citizens and restrict their autonomy with advancements in technology, even if policy decisions like these are against the ethos of the country's founding governance.

Like others said, I don't think you need to worry about this though, even if the bill passes. Sasu is banned in the country that I live in, but I still access it frequently using a VPN. Even in countries like China or Turkmenistan (yes, the real country and not the fictional one from Borat) which have much more stringent firewalls and censorship, people still manage to use banned websites and apps.

It's a PR move to give the illusion that they are doing something about the rise in suicide rates, despite the fact that the membership of this site is merely a drop in the bucket in terms of numbers, and that many members here will go on to recover.
