  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

For me it's because I don't live alone and dont want my roommates or family to have to find my body. Especially don't want to be found and saved.

Because it's a place where you can delay the possibility of being found and rescued by your close ones.
If you're on suicide watch or perhaps your neighbors are notified to be extra alert, a hotel helps you be the most private you can be in your last moments.

Family will still have to identify your body though. One thing I've always wondered: can you leave a note requesting that your body *not* be identified by a certain family member?

I feel like finding a dead body vs identifying it are just different. Obviously it will still be upsetting to id a body, but I know I would be more traumatized finding one and thinking of all the ways I maybe could have found them sooner or things like that. Plus when you id a body it's been cleaned up a bit.

Same as others have said mostly. Don't want to traumatise my friends/family, they don't deserve that and I can understand them finding it difficult to live, and sleep, metres away from where they found my body

Because I might hire a sex worker so I won't die a virgin so I'll need a room anyway

You can rent a room for days or a week, ask not to be disturbed, then CTB your first day or night, not being discovered sometimes until the smell of your corpse becomes an issue, often locking the door from inside so it has to be broken down. Also, you can CTB out of state, sometimes hundreds or even thousands of miles from where you live. This has happened at motels where I worked.

One reason these establishments have been taking information from drivers licenses for decades is to establish accountability and identity. Now you might use your identification to check me into a room on your behalf, but if my unidentified corpse is discovered in that room a few days later, the person in whose name that room was rented can still be tracked down easily enough to reduce the chances that corpse will remain unidentified. (No, of course this is not foolproof, but it does reduce the odds. And yes, minors routinely pay adults to rent rooms for illegal underage parties and drunken orgies. If those adults are not foreign nationals and remain in the country, they can be apprehended as they hold legal responsibility. And yes, I have rented rooms to guests who enjoy diplomatic immunity. In those cases, a nonrefundable advance payment was required.)

No one to interrupt what I am doing which means no rescue attempt. People that I know who have exited at home have caused tremendous grief and stress for the family members who find them. The loss is difficult enough for them to face, but finding the body is far more traumatic. Of the five people whom I knew personally, 2 shot themselves with pistol, 2 used a shot gun and one hung themselves. Finding someone who has hung themselves is really bad, especially when it was a teenage child. But a gun shot victim is very messy and hard to grasp. I have witnessed one of those people who CTB using a pistol. It is quick but extremely messy. I wish I could have stopped the person, they left a big hole my life and the lives of others.

For these reasons and others, I would be using either a hotel room or a rented cabin in the woods. If I exit in a rented cabin, I would select winter time to exit since no one would be a around to try and rescue me.

I don't want my family to find me in the home. Big chain hotels also typically have a built-in process for dealing with suicides, so they know who to contact, how to handle the body, do the cleaning, etc. These are added challenges I'd rather not throw on my family in a time that is bound to be stressful for them anyway.

With me, I'm hoping to do a double CTB with someone. So it'll be easier for us if we get a hotel room. More private and less likely to be found by family.

Cause you can get away from family/roommates and ctb in peace. Also there's a lesser change of being found too early because no one can enter your room. Some people also don't want their loved ones to see them dead

Mainly for the last bit of privacy and a more comfortable environment, leading up to the final moments. I think the less chance of being found (although still understandable) is not main priority. As its not crazily difficult to venture to the middle of nowhere late at night to get the job done, with some prior research & planning. The upside of doing it outdoors in the middle of nowhere, is also you won't have to be too concerned of being noisy and raising the attention of other tenants next door, or above/ below you, and also won't have to affect the hotel or traumatize the people who work there. Of course I understand there are certain variables, but yeah. At least for me, mainly for the last bit of privacy, while in a comfortable cozy environment, versus outdoors, where it may be cold, wet, dirty, etc. and you never know what may pop up around you since its an uncontrolled open environment and don't know what to expect

My concern with hotels is a possibility that I will loudly puke the SN and they will rescue me. This really scares me. Otherwise I would have CTBed already.
I don't know what to do.

This is often being mentioned on SS as an issue.
But hotel guests often puke especially on weekends after partying and make allsorts of noises.
You can raise the volume of the TV, Ensure the hotel is of decent quality so has thicker walls, more privacy.

I'd say the only way this would be an issue would be if you booked a cheap room next door to reception
