trying to figure out why it is still a 'no go' to talk about death and suicide in our society, has someone a clue?

I'm sure that there are multiple reasons for it.

  • It calls into question the "intrinsic good" of life that some people cling to. I believe life is actually intrinsically bad, but you're not allowed to think that, or express that thought. *sigh*
  • We are a social species, highly dependent on one another for our own survival. So if people around us starts to die then our survival could be threatened. This seems very exploitative to me, but that's a foundational component to life. You have to harm (broadly speaking) others for your own survival and welfare.
I'm sure there are several other reasons as well, but I'm too tired to give it much more thought. :P

I don't know if it's taboo as much as it is uncomfortable for people to talk about. Ones own mortality is not something most people want to think about in everyday life. Most of the time people go about their day as if their life will last forever. If people had to confront the truth about death the majority couldn't handle it. They wouldn't be able to function day to day. So it's best swept under the rug.

Because they don't have the answer to the question: why live if life is suffering.
The only one they can come up with is to live for others.

Catholic beliefs being the bedrock of most of our western societies, some imperatives just stayed even after states became secular.

Which is really strange since Catholics worship a guy who got executed on purpose. It may as well be suicide.

Yeah, the whole obsession over sacrifice and pain in Catholicism always freaked me out. The cross everyone's wearing around their neck is basically a symbol for torture and agony, but suicide and abortion are the biggest taboos ?
Not that i have anything against religion, but that contradiction has always weirded me out a bit.

I thought of this quote in regard to cross necklaces. It is weird the fascination with torture and sacrifice. I remember when The Passion of the Christ was in theaters and Christian groups were giving out tickets and encouraging everyone to go see it. They love their torture porn. Maybe that's why they want suicide and abortion to be as taboo as possible, since it doesn't stop those actions but instead forces people to resort to unpleasant and gruesome methods. Seeing all of that suffering must be their kink.

"If Jesus had been killed twenty years ago, Catholic school children would be wearing little electric chairs around their necks instead of crosses." - Lenny Bruce

Agreed...The God(s) of the middle east/ the Abrahamic gods of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all Sadists and psychopaths that get their rocks off torturing and tormenting humanity. Especially when they threaten people with hell. Because if there is one thing a Religious Zealot understands- how Powerful a weapon fear is! Much of the time, Fear stops people from killing themselves, because 'if you think this life is bad, wait until this so called loving God throws your ass in hell!' Uuug...Lol...very split minded to call that a loving God!! But anyway,.. Like Cats are the biggest predators, so are the middle eastern gods... I think all religion is suspect, but I think gods of the middle east definitely spread their tenticles furthan than say Hinduism .But I think all these gods really like to bat around their prey, make it suffer, they enjoy the chase before Zues will zap us up, and eat us for supper....They are the farmers, we are the sheeple, they love to use force and fear to control the people.

It's always the same. Willingness to suicide is a totally different way of thinking and people tend to think different=bad. People are dumb.

Because certain people are interested in creating illusion that everything is okay.
Nobody is interested in solving the problems which cause suicide, so it is easier and cheaper to hide the problems and show the suicide as a bad tendency in our ideal world blaming those who "did not reach for help" and CTB.

Talking about death reminds people of their own mortality. And thats uncomfortable especially if you have a strong sense of ego.

Because people are inherently selfish. They don't want to deal with the real problems in society or believe that those who desire or commit suicide had any form of logic. They just want you to shut up and keep working for peanuts so they can profit off of your labor and existence.
