Venting Why are periods so painful?

Why are periods so painful? I just got mine today and it's so painful, it's been preventing me from going to sleep. It's literally almost 1 am and I'm tossing and turning. My period has always been painful, I've always gotten a lot of cramps and have sometimes even become bedridden from it. I hate the fact that women have to get periods, I've hated it ever since I've had to get them. I never saw a need for them, they only cause pain and a bloody mess. What's the reason for all of this pain? Why do women have to go through this? I don't understand why periods are so painful...ugh it hurts.

Have you ever seen a gynaecologist? Mild pain is normal unfortunately but if it leaves you bedridden it would be good to address that and hopefully treat it. I'm so sorry for your pain

I totally feel u they are awful afffff. Especially just randomly going about ur day and realizing you're suddenly bleeding ;w; and the cramps are so painful sometimes. I also wish people born female didn't have to have periods. Hoping you feel better soon and the pain subsides eventually ♡

No, I've never been to one...tbh I didn't see a need to go to one because I've never done the deed and I don't really want to go to one. Idk I don't want to have to get that part examined, it just seems kind of weird to me. I guess I also don't want to go because I don't want to be reminded of the fact that I'm female? Tbh I've never really liked being one...idk I just feel uncomfortable with all things s*xual

It isn't a s*xual thing many people see a gynaecologist without having had s*x, but I hear you, it feels weird to me too. My next suggestion is talking to a general doctor/nurse so they can guide you without examining you but I can imagine just talking about it could be too uncomfortable as well. I hope your pain eases some how I really do ^^

We aren't peeing blood. Pee comes out of your urethra. Periods are a result of the shedding of the uterine lining meaning that the blood flows out of your vagina. Also, the pain that you were describing in your original posts doesn't sound normal. If your cramps are so severe that they sometimes leave you bedridden then that's a sign that you need to see a gynecologist. Normal period cramps should only be mildly painful, not extremely painful.

Lol I know, peeing blood is something a girl and I used to say to each other when we learned about p*berty because we were both disgusted by it. I never even wanted a uterus or ovaries in the first place, I wish that I could stop my periods without doing harm to my body. I don't want to experience this pain, it's like literal torture and I don't want kids either. Periods are such a hassle, they're full of blood and pain and hopefully someone figures out a way to cure them without damaging the other parts and systems of your body

Whenever I get mine I can't focus and constantly have to hold my stomachs because of the pain.

I heard someone call it shark week once and, that's stuck with me since. I agree though, I hate them too.

You can do a quick Google search as to why they hurt... The cramps are the womb contracting to expel the lining. Apparently, hormone like substances control this and higher levels of this cause more severe cramps.

Do you use hot water bottles? I find sometimes that helps alongside pain killers.

I agree though. It's revolting. Honestly, it does really trigger me when guys say how much easier it is to be female. I'm not talking about trans people here- that's obviously a genuine desire to be a certain sex physically.

I mean more the whole- women have it so much easier rant. I can't say for a fact that we don't of course because, I've not experienced being male but- when they say stuff like that- I do maliciously want them to experience a period at that very moment! Try and keep your mind on your speech when you can feel warm goo oozing out. Try and concentrate on anything when you have cramps.

There again, it must be distracting to have a penis. I don't think I'd like that either! Really, I think both sexes suffer in their own way but, yeah- I detest periods. Especially if you have no intention of having children. Like- what was the point of all that?!!

Yeah I've heard about the prostaglandins. It's kind of insidious how we have go through this kind of pain though, and how guy don't. I hate how so much of our body is centered about reproducing and how our body gets ready to do that every month. I wish that I could put a permanent stop to it. I don't even want children why does my body still do this shit every month…I feel like this is all so unnecessary tbh. Anyways hopefully my pain is a sign that I have some kind of disease which makes me infertile or something bc I just don't want kids. I hate the shark week vicious cycle.

Yeah I made myself a hot water bottle and I think I passed out from the pain and went to sleep but I'm awake now. Idk why guys think that being a girl is easier, we definitely have our struggles (idk if guys could even withstand this kind of pain). I guess they think the grass is greener on the other side or something…

I forgot to add that I don't want Fallopian tubes either. I heard that removing your reproductive organs puts you in early menopause which is bad for you overall…personally I never considered reproductive organs as "essential" but maybe nature does? Ugh I hate how their removal will affect other systems of the body

possible short term solution: i find that heating pads, hot water bottles, basically anything that gives off heat to help reduce the pain, although granted temporarily.
possible long term solution that doesnt work right away: i found that when i was out walking more it reduced it as well. and not just during your week so you know.

youre right though, being doubled over in pain sucks.

None of my business, but some people used to take the contraceptive pill to regulate their periods and make them "lighter". I'm really sorry it's causing you pain. I hope you can find something to help. You shouldn't have to suffer like this.

There's been a lot of research on common birth control side effects. And studies show that the pill, the ring, the patch, and the IUD don't make you gain weight or lose weight

The pill should be fine. It's only the shots ans implants that risk come with the risk of weight gain it seems.

I would go see an endo specialist regular obgyn won't help much apart from prescribing synthetic hormones.

Sorry to hear that. I wish that nature didn't make us go through this. Same, the pain sucks, I have to use hot water bottles for it, holding my stomach doesn't help me unfortunately. I hate how it leaks through clothes and stains everything. I have really heavy ones so they always stain things. Ugh it's just a bloody mess overall

Oh okay, thanks for lmk. Does it mess up your hormones as well? I heard that it would also mess up your hormones so that's another reason why I didn't want to take it…
